You'll notice how we were just talking about the ridiculous price of the long Craftsman ratchet on eBay (personally I think they are worth it) and bam, I find one today (what are the odds?), garage sale on the way home from two estate sales. Also ran into a member here, I believe his user name is Oak Park, he had some of his finds with him that he posted pics of, nice stuff, the pictures don't do them justice.

Anyhow I've got a good story, I go to the first estate sale and I'm the first one there, another guy shows up a few minutes later and we start a list. So as we're waiting I'm talking to the guy and he gives me what will later turn out to be a **** and bull story, he tells me he's interested in the wood working tools for his father-in-law because he's going to build cabinets or some **** like that, I was thinking the wood working tools weren't all that great in the pictures but whatever. I also share with him the information of another nearby estate sale that also has a lot of tools. Both sales had decent sized metal lathes, anyhow they let us in and this weasel runs down and buys the machinist lathe and not a single wood working tool, had I known I'd of bought the lathe just to piss him off and offered to him for another $200. I'll be curious if someone posts here about buying a lathe today. Anyhow, why lie, why not just say nothing rather than make up a BS story, did he think saying he was looking for wood working tools would throw me off the path (I wasn't even interested in the lathe, had I been I'd have gotten it). I'd like to hear your opinions, is the guy a weasel or not, one vote for weasel here.

WEASEL

Seems to happen at all auctions, remember one that had a John Deere 450 dozer. This guy standing over it telling anyone that looked at it that the seals in the motor and transmission were probably dried out and going to leak a flood at any time and would cost a fortune to fix. Sure as S*** he's right in the thick of bidding on it, he got outbid as it was a fine low hour machine, should of kept his mouth shut.

I got those to fill out a set that I'm going to sell, I probably paid a little bit too much and I'm not sure which ones I needed, forgot my list. I may have some spares if you need a particular one, I accidentally picked up two 13/16" today and I probably already have it.

Great Haul and it was fun. That guy was a major Weasel! All that talk about woodworking and then goes nowhere near the woodworking stuff.

I can't believe you found some ratchets! I must have taken a wrong turn because I didn't find anything else, but I'm real happy with the couple of things I picked up.

Was at one a few weeks back and the guy running the place kept trying to get me to buy the wood lathe outta the basement,I told him I would if it was a machine lathe....he said that all that was down there was an old wood lathe. 10-minutes later,a guy that went down to look at the wood lathe comes back up to see what they want for the machine lathe down there....$100!! It was an old Craftsman/Atlas,complete with extra gears and tooling. I then yelled at the guy running the sale.

Oh yeah,I drove out to Crown Point for an auction to bid on some P71`s today. I missed out a decent Remline box because the auctioneer failed to let people know he was starting the auction, then missed a big *** old drill press because of the stupid auctioneer again.

I stopped at an estate sale on the way home and only ended up with an old SW gauge for $1.00 and a 10" Crescent for $1.00

Yeah, there's a lot of idiots in charge of putting on sales. I keep forgetting to ask you, at the Mt. Prospect sale did the guy ask you if you were with me for the Snap-On toolbox? I was thinking about it later, it remind of the ******* that sold the lathe from under you in Park Ridge. When I walked by him I said "I'll take the toolbox and he'll pay" but I didn't say who and he never asked, just curious.

Those wire strippers in their original box are very cool. Not just weasel , scum sucking weasel. At an auction when bidding on a Baldor buffer a guy next to me jumped out and got back in three times. Ended up paying what a new one would cost but he didn't get it , I still have it and I'll have it for a LONG time.

Good haul,

Maybe that weasel thought there was a chance that you didn't know about the lathe, and if you found out about from him, you may want it and outbid him.

Seen it happen before.

Sweet haul.

I just picked up a Record #3 myself today, can you take some pics of just the swivel base? None of my Records have one, and I want to track one (or three) down for mine.

As luck would have it I took several pictures of it.

Thanks! Do you know if that is an original base?

Don't know for sure but I'd bet it is, the color matches but I'm no expert on Record vises. It is kind of a peculiar base, I figured it was because Brits made it. I have actually seen swivel bases for Record vises sold separately, try a google search.

That long Craftsman ratchet is a beautie! Only problem is, today's nuts and bolts can't handle all that torque. Better to just give it to me, cause I have alot of old fasteners waiting to be wrenched!:)

i hate talking to anyone, or anyone talking to me, when i'm looking at tools, even at the flea mkt.
if i see something i'd like to have, i dont show more than a passing interest in it, and usually walk away at least one time.
i scored a kennedy cantilever box at the flae mkt this morning, seller offered a price of $20 and i walked away, 2nd time around he dropped to $15. no body was biting on anything he had. i went back again searched through all his boxes of real junk tools, and he offered it to me for $9 i grabbed it and ran.

Nice work! That vise and the plomb double box are really cool! You come across more of these deals...than anyone on here! Specially the older stuff that looks unused still in the box. Yep you got some serious tool mojo!

Definitely a weasel! A liar is a liar is a liar! I've been a scrounger at flea markets, auctions, estate sales, and garage sales for most of my life, and yet it still amazes me how people who are normally "good, honest citizens" think it that it is perfectly appropriate to lie, cheat, and even outright steal when they are at these events.
