Well, alas, I did not get my Milwaukee V28 stuff for Christmas, but I was given an HD gift card. After doing some research, I decided that the Ridgid Li-Ion 24v combo was my next best best. HD originallt had these for sale for $597.00 and are "clearancing" them out for $397.00. I went to HD today and the Ridgid rep happened to be there. I talked with him about the tools and asked why HD was trying to clear them out. He said it was probably an inventory issue. So, I found one of their tool trolls and asked if they had any of the kits in their inventory. They had one - it was a display model and they gave me another 10% off!

So, I got new 24v Li-Ion tools with 3.0 Ah batteries, and I registered for their lifetime service agree - free replacement of batteries!

So far, so good. I like the Ridgid stuff.... lightweight and powerful. You know how some cheap cordless tools feel like toys? Well, to me, these don't. Especially the jigsaw. I ran the drill/driver hard today (used it with a grinding wheel) and it did a great job.

I have heard that most of the Ridgid stuff was actually made by Ryoby (spelling??). Do you feel that they are??

Ridgid, Ryobi and Milwaukee are all owned by TTI out of Hong Kong. The Ridgid stuff actually seems to have more in common with the Milwaukee line than with the Ridgid line (IMHO).

Very nice - Glad you enjoy them. I'm not big on cordless power tools at all, but two of my wrenching buddies just bought 28v Li-Ion Milwaukee tools and I am hugely impressed. Tons of power (The impact keeps up with my big Blue Point air impact no problem), crazy battery life, and the tools keep the same power 'level' as the batteries run down.

The Li-Ion stuf seems like the way to go.

I don't think it's exactly as the 24v stuff... but it can run off either the 18v or 24v batteries

I know i know... but they look pretty damn identical

I wonder what the difference is... and if the 24v tools will still rung on an 18v battery
