Found: Partial FV 71 at the bottom of a box of greasy $1 tools. It is in beautiful shape (other than what is missing).

Goal: To rebuild this better, stronger, faster (for personal use).

Researching old threads, see that part number RKRA380 should fit. some suggested that a 30 tooth kit could fit, but never saw a part number confirmed.

Snap-on website does not show what is in kit. looking at picture #1, i think I need the pawl-ball and spring. Are those parts in the kit?

Is there a 30 tooth gear that will fit? (I am more interested in making it the best ratchet possible than in keeping it original.)

I have one of those new on the ceiling. I think it is a fn720a that appears to be the military version of the ratchet.

Hi, thanks (and to Chadster1 too). Can you confirm the civilian version is a fn720a? The compatible rebuild kit has a 30 tooth option, but it doesn't seem to work on any ratchet that the Rkra380 kit works on. This seems significant because others have confirmed that the Rkra380 kit does work in an FV 71. I totally want to make this a 30 tooth keeper.

Thx again.

I picked up a FV71 and it needed a new gear so I ordered RKRAFN720 based on this thread. It turns out it does not fit in my FV71. The gear and pawl are a little bit to big to fit inside the body. The FV71 gear is 0.807" in diameter vs the RKRAFN720 gear which is 0.865". The pawl is 0.491" and 0.515" respectively. So, it's close but too big. Anyone need a RKRAFN720?

sometimes you have to have ll the different kits and find which parts fit the best when rebuilding one of the older ones. i have had this issue before. usually we warranty out the ratchet to prevent any problems.

Hang onto that RKRAFN720 kit, you never know what else you might find that needs a rebuild.

Yeah, thats the plan. Just thought I'd bring the thread back up to let other folks know that it doesn't fit. Hopefully, the Rkra380 will fit.

talk about timing. i just bought a FV 71 today for $5, but 3 teeth and one side of the pawl are stripped in it. so from what i have gathered from this and other threads, is that i need the RKRA380 kit not the RKRAFN720 kit. Correct? I would say yes.
