The project started it in early may. I did just about everything myself. I hired the foundation, floor concrete and had some carpenters set the trusses. It was a hard summer and fall! Features a floor drain in the center and is going to have a small bathroom in the back corner.

Holy VW light, batman! I hope you plan on lighting that puppy up - it should look cool.

Speaking of lighting...I definitely think you could use some more light in your garage. Have you considered putting up some more, brighter lights?

Yeah, you light that sign up and you'll have people pulling in from the interstate looking for service!

That's a great looking shop. Congratulations!

I have a bunch of used high output fluorescent fixtures to use. I can't decide when to put them up. I plan on lining the inside with steel. So much to do. I need to get my mid rise rotary lift installed also.

If you knew you were putting a lift in it, why did you build it with a 9-10 foot ceiling? Building code/zoning restrictions - or trying to prevent it from overshadowing the home?

Seems strange to put a low ceiling in a place where you knew you'd be installing a lift, is all. :)

It is a mid rise lift! Lifts car about 30" off the floor.

Looking good But you defineatly need more light.

I used cold start ballasts (scrounged/free) and philips 4 foot tubes. They seem to last pretty long without going thru a lot of bulbs.

I tried those cheap sylvania "watt misers" and went thru them like crazy. The watt misers (or similiar) are only 34 watt for the 4 foot and 60 watt for the 8 foot tubes.

They never seemed to become fully bright and always flickered until they died.

The low watt tubes are "planned obsolescense"

In which they want you to buy more of them more often as they die early.

what a rip off.

I have 6 in there. 3 vw beetles, 1 chevy short box truck, 1 mini van and a oldsmobile 88. There is lots of room. Sometimes I wish it was wider.

You'll always wish it was wider..no matter how big or wide your garage is, you'll want it wider. Our garage is 36ft wide as well, which looked HUGE compared to what we used to work out of...and now we're saying we should have made it bigger!:lol_hitti

Here are some new pictures. Not alot happening in my garage lately. Too cold. I have a slow start on insulating the ceiling. I've been working in the basement. I live in Iowa so I thought I'd include a snow covered picture. Other pictures show my storage, my toolbox, a high $ chair I got for $20 and recovered and the furnace.

That looks like a great garage! Great size too! I can't wait to watch your progress on the interior. I'm doing the same to my garage here in Sacramento. It was a chilling 65 degrees here today, but I'm doing the best that I can (sorry).

Keep the pictures coming!

Ceiling insulation is done:bounce: That sucked! I hired a guy to put on seamless gutters. Thats nice not to have water dripping everywhere. Maybe I'll be able to get the backhoe back soon to finish the plumbing. I have about 30' left to go. It will tie into the house. I installed as far as I could when the footing hole was open.

Nice ..... did you buy any off it as a Kit, or did you just build the walls and have the roof made to fitt ????

Does anyone do this kind of garage in Kit form ??? and any Idea on how much it's cost so far to what you have upto now ???

Cheers Clive

I knew what size I wanted so I ordered the trusses to that width. It is not hard to figure what lumber you need. Just takes some time. I'm at about $28,000. Thats with me doing most of the work.

Killer shop. You need more light and it needs to be wider. Gotta bust yer balls a little bit on what the others have commented on. Mine is 36 wide x 30 deep. It was huge til I worked in it a while. I can just imagine how cold it was this winter in there up nort der in Iowa. It was cold in my shop and it is insulated like nobodys business. Of course I was heating with a salamander til SuperBowl Sunday when I was given an electric furnace.
I really like what you did with the ductwork off the furnace. I got unoriginal and just installed a box with registers on it.

Well I have everything insulated except for the north wall. That wall has the overhead doors. The bathroom has been framed for a while. I'm waiting for my neighbor to finish the mud work in there. I'll post pictures later

Here are the pictures I promised. Bathroom now is painted. I need to set all the fixtures. I think the garage will look like this for a while. We bought new furniture for the house on black friday. $3800 worth! That would have gone a long ways in the garage.

LOL, You gotta please the other half too! Nice looking garage & projects you have there. My brother and I are also restoring a Super Beetle right now for my nephew. Pretty weird car for a couple of diehard Chevy guys!:wtf:
