After the worst winter in history it appears like we went right into the hot and sticky August type of weather. In an attempt to beat the heat we wound up ordering a Lasko model 3135 30" pedestal oscillating fan from Home Depot online for $180. It showed up yesterday and man does that thing blow. It is only 1/4 hp but it does give a comfortable breeze out to about 25 to 30 feet and you can still feel a slight breeze out to about 50 feet. I only ran it a few hours last night so I cant talk about longevity but I am pretty happy right now.

I'm glad you posted up. I was looking at that exact fan for my shop as well.

Does it sound like a cessna in your shop? Or is not bad for the size fan it is?

Tractor Supply had 42" barrel fans on for $299. One on the floor was damaged and would need some severe mallitizing to get it back in shape. I asked the register clerk if the manager was willing to consider offers, and she just laughed. Apparently someone had already asked and he wanted full price for it. If this is the same manager they had two or three years ago, I understand, he is an idiot, judging from an experience I had with a tractor battery and him about three or four years ago.

Why would you put a damaged product on the floor with others of that product, if you were not going to mark it down?

On another line, at the flea market about a month ago, a guy had a bunch of complete heads for pedestal fans, with expensive looking cast aluminum blades. All new stuff. He only wanted $50 for each, but I really could not find a good excuse to get it.

nice. it looks pretty big. i see you also have the heater for the other seasons.

I bought the heater in Feb or March and love it. It is a pro-temp sunstream infrared torpedo heater that puts out 70Kbtu of infrafed heat on 1/2 gal of Kerosene an hour. The infrared keeps you warm even when working outside.
It is pretty quiet as well.

'75 still had right side shift?
:eyecrazy: or are my eyes that bad?

or was it '76 when they switched :headscrat

First year for the last minute government mandated Rube Goldberg left side shift. They simply converted the brake pedal to a shifter arm and put a connector arm from the old brake pedal to the shift lever on the right hand side of the case. The extra pieces are buried under the sprocket and cam covers but they are there. It is Rube Goldberg but it works. '77 was the first year for a true left side shift where the shift lever actually comes out of the left side of the case. I understand Sportsers were right hand shift until the government forced them to switch because dirt racers don't use brakes and keep their left foot on the ground and shift with their right foot.

If you don't mind sharing, what is the country of origin for that fan? I know Lasko assembles most of their stuff in the US, but I don't know about their high velocity fans.

Has anyone tried the Dyson Air Multiplier yet? http://www.dyson.com/fans/ Looks like an interesting concept. We have a few of the Lasko's at work and they do a great job of moving air. I wouldn't mind having one mounted in the corner to circulate.

Now, insulate the garage and spend $200 on a window air conditioner and you will think you are working in a freezer.

My garage is 28,000 cubic feet and has more volume than my house. Even though it is insulated, I'm not paying to heat or cool it. As long as I am warm or cool with a torpedo or a fan I will be fine.

No can do!!! :shocking: Where I am work at my workplace, I am basically in a basement. No windows, no doors. Then spending 6 months with the windows and doors closed up in the house in the winter, no way am I going out into the garage and keep the doors shut and run an air conditioner. It can be 100 degrees out but as long as I have some moving air I am fine. I'm not claustrophobic but I like fresh air. My wife can't understand why I have a bedroom window partially open in the winter. I bought her an air conditioner for her building but none goes in mine.

BTW...my garage is insulated :spit:
