Hello all. Will be posting pictures of our shop we just completed. Its a 35x35 metal building that we have been planning for a couple of years, with now being the time to finally make the investment. General specs are:

10' high walls
Roof constructed of I-beams
Fully welded
Roof pitch is 3:12
Thicker slab where future lift will ultimately be installed (8" reinforced with rebar)
Two 12x9 roll doors
Fully insulated
Overhang & 5' extra slab facing house
Windows & access door
Framed for future air conditioner

I hope everyone enjoys.

Here is the blank canvas, one acre that stretches over 350 feet deep. Issue we were faced was cost of necessary concrete drive to have decent shop setback from house.

Ground breaking was May 7, 2010. Here is initial earth work. Going to wrap driveway around 4th car garage (our beer barn - shown) for shop access.

Rebar & moisture barrier. Notice floor drain. Thought, what the heck as you never know and did not want to think somewhere in the future "what if" or "boy that would have been nice"...

That is looking awesome! Keep up with updates. How hard was it to get that project by the HOA, assuming you have one with all those nice houses around...

RbrtAWhyt,

Glad you are enjoying the pictures. Have to give credit to my wife as she took all the pictures.

Not too bad an issue with our HOA. Our builder/contractor had performed one other last year in our neighborhood, so he knew exactly what requirements are.

Finished concrete work. Very exciting...:D To save a few $, went with a 10' wide drive.

Here are various photos showing the initial framing. I-beams worked out great as we have a ton of overhead space (no trusses in the way)...

We are in the Rendon (DFW) area. Nice unincorporated area away from all the hustle & bustle, but close enough to it all if needed.

A few showing how it looks from a distance and at night. Only thing missing now is the brick Waynes coat, some solar screens, and floor epoxy/sealer...

Brick work - an HOA requirement. Being on the perimeter of our neighborhood, don't need brick on back wall...cool!

Very very nice! To some the proportion may not be quite right above the doors , but your doors will open 1 ft from the eaves. I see garages all the time with no trucks and vans inside because its aesthetically correct but the vehicles do not go in.

Excellent observation as that was exactly the intent, some wooden rocking chairs similar to the type from Cracker Barrel. In the afternoon, we have shade to just sit outside and look upon the neighborhood. Was a bit highter than originally thought, but I'll take the greater ceiling height which will now allow for those taller 2-post lifts with overhead crossmember rather than a floor plate model.

Well done, my73ss454! Both on the garage and the layout we're all digging. I think it's especially effective for those of us that won't/didn't do the layout and concrete work ourselves. Your attention to detail is a good lesson in what is needed for such work.

BTW, that seven foot shelf was VERY clever. In fact, I would say it was Jack Olsen clever!

Wishing you many happy hours in there.

That is a wonderful place! How long did it take from start to finish? Did they just brick on theoutside of the metal? Is how most bulding are done? I always thought metal sat on top of a half brick wall, not behind it? Then again, something had to hold up the insulation behind it. That is a great looking shop? What do you get to work on in there?

Thanks for your compliments. Took till the end of June, so about two months. Although we did have some periods of wet weather that introduced delays, our builder did feel that it took a bit longer than originally expected. Regarding the Wayne’s coat, I believe you ultimately answered your own question :), but generally yes, just drop the skin to the foundation and brick around it. Between the two of us, we have 6 vehicles and the 4 car garage at the house was just not cutting it anymore since there are other things that need their own space & storage. Specifically, we have 2 73 Chevelle SS's that are restored but can always find something needing freshening up. The space and convenience the shop provides is priceless.

Mac & all,

Thanks for the compliments. Regarding concrete cost, I really don't know :dunno: as the price was all inclusive. Whatever the final cost on the concrete, I believe I got my $ worth as more was brought in then originally planned. My builder did not like how the initial layout in front of the two garage doors so he opened it up more.

The HOA's original requrement was to have full brick. About a year ago a neighbor was planning to build a building so he went around and received necessary signatures to change. As a good neighbor, he first asked the only homeowner that had to comply with the full brick requrement if he minded.

Love the garage and great pics. I am curious, why did orient the door to the side of the property versus the front such as allowing a "straight in" approach?
