Hey guys,

I purchased my house with a small 14x20 detached garage back in 2003 and now finally working on it in 2010. A little history on the garage --- it has a hip style roof and was built around the 60's as a possible carport (my house was built in 1941). Looks like the roof was replaced around 2000. The sill plates are on the concrete slab. No insulation and no drywall. Two sides have tin as an exterior... the other two sides (incl garage door side) has stucco. The garage door is a solid panel that swings up go open... Forgot what it's officially called.

Known issues:
- some wood rot/termite damage on sill plate (tin exterior wall -- long side)
- no electrical panel --- power coming from house (not currently up to code)
- not insulated... All Walls and ceiling
- sill plates sit on concrete slab
- two sides are made of tin

Current tasks:
- garage door to be replaced with insulated roll up door on Aug 4
- built 6x10 storage shed for all non-auto and workshop items
- clearing out all items in garage to properly clean the concrete floor
- new electrical sub-panel to be installed in mid Aug

What are your opinions/suggestions on this renovation? My goal is to store and work on my '69 Mercedes 280SL as well as a workshop. It will not be a man cave (due to its small footprint) but will serve as a pure auto and woodworking workshop... No flat screen or couch.. :(

I will post photos shortly.

Cheers!

Taken just minutes ago... the above photo is the view looking into the garage... walls are only 8' high... the tine sides are the on the left and back of the garage...

I've focused more on the left side which is the tin side and with the most sill plate damage

Any suggestions on what I should do with the sill plates? The two sides made of tin? Should I take the tin off and replace with stucco?

You could possibly remove the tin, sheath the walls with OSB, then apply stucco over that. Not sure about the sill plates.

NEW door -- trim will be painted white... the door is 9' wide and the door opening was 9'6", so had to install 2x4 and 2x6...
