The separate garage is a a simple shoebox, about 7 meters deep and 20 meters wide, built to fit the terrain and the constraints of a built house. The rear consists of glass windows that look out into a small pond and a hill.

Another section

The garage is in Manila, Corsario. Yes, the style is very minimalist. I am glad you like it. Here is another section.

Thanks, evening shots with good lighting produce interesting photos. I'm not sure what "OP's" means, but the only cars are those 2 English and 2 Italian cars. Except for the Dino, they have been with me many years (the Lotus since 1977). Here are two pictures that show the exterior and interior - the garage was, still is actually, under construction. I was reluctant to post because the modern, very minimalist style usually isn't very popular. I am glad you like the design or at least the night shots.

All this is about having a place where you can have a good time, after work or in weekends. Some use the garage as a proffesional working space, some use it just for fun, others are int the middle.
Anyway, your place is very original and you have a great car collection there!
Keep posting pics!!

I think your place is fantastic. Very reminiscent of Le Corbusier architecture, especially with the two LC2 chairs. I'm happy to hear the red car is Lotus! It was the only one I was a little unsure of. Are you planning to add any benches or cabinets or is it complete?

Thank you again. Yes, 993James993 (is that a reference to the Porsche model?). the house is I think what they call the international style, 1930s modern (yes, very influenced by Le Corbusier). The cars are hard to identify in the small photos. The yellow one is a 1948 MG TC, the green car next to it the 1969 Lotus Elan. That's a blue Dino 246; the red one is not very well known, a 1976 Lancia Stratos.

It is a "working" garage too, Corsario. There is a section for mechanical work. I will take a photo when that is done.

Regards,

Andres

OP is for "original poster", or you in this case, since you are posting this on here.

The floor is like a mirror. What is it?

I believe it's called homogeneous tile which looks like marble. It's pretty common building material used in Europe, Asia, and Far East. Not so common in US though.

You can still see gap in OP's floor but some special procedure can be done to make them look seamless. Basically, it's just liquid filler with glossy tint for the gap and polish.

Thank you.

Yes, that is tile on the floor, but a standard ceramic, not homogenous. The two working bays have epoxy floors; if I had read the floor section on Garage Journal earlier, I would have had tiles there too. Easier to install, probably cheaper, and, if you break a tile, you replace just the tile. Very convincing, I think.

I had a 993 for some time, 993james993, and before that a 1972 911.

Okay, I will try to post more pictures, but the garage is still under construction really. BTW, how do I post pictures so one doesn't have to click on them to enlarge them? I have simply been attaching files from my computer.

I post photos to my flickr.com page and then just link to them using the insert image icon that is available in the Reply to Thread page. It takes more time to post but you can choose several sizes for display.

The garage was built 9 years ago, the shape and access dictated by the shape of the lot and the design for the rest of the property. The advantage has been that the cars can be parked side by side, so they can be driven out without having to move cars in front.

The remodeling this year added 1.7 meters to the depth to the garage, windows, and an extra bay (the new working area).

This is the front of the garage. The driveway was poured concrete when we bought the property. This year we tore that up and installed grass pavers. The grass was yet to be planted in this photo.

The old workshop (which doubled as a garage-band practice room) is at the end of the driveway in this photo. We plan to relocate the tool cabinets there to the new bay in the main garage.

Let me find some "before" and "during" photos.

The best thing you can do is keep posting the pics just like you are now. Using a outside photo host like Flicker or some other host is nice, but accounts change, web sites change, things come and go and someday someone will click on a thread with externally hosted pics and not get any pics, just a message that they are missing or the bandwidth is exceeded.

uploading the pics to this site assures everyone that the pics will always be there to see, now, next year, and five years from now.

Forgot to mention, nice garage, very unique. We are starting to see members from Asia (Vietnam, Philippines, etc) post and it is nice to see what is going on in that part of the world.

All right, here are some pictures of the house, to put the garage in context. It is quite minimalistic, but the absence of clutter does make it peaceful and calming. However, most will probably find it too severe.

The house was an old one that sat on the market for a while and purchased not expensively 12 years ago. We retained the foundation, a room that is now the workshop, and some walls and columns.

It is quite modern so may not appeal to many, I am afraid.

Thats's quite a home! Do you have have hidden rooms to store your stuff? Or you do you limit the possessions that you allow yourself?

I realize that this is The Garage Journal, but please tell more about your library. Is it built around a particular interest? I have collected books since the late '80s and have them stored throughout the house.

I wish I could maintain that level of minimalism in my home, but I just seem to acquire too much stuff.

I like it! The space reminds me of this one -

QUOTE]

28HopUp, yes, the large windows and the green at the back are similar, but the "Bueller" house is really nice. I read it was for sale.

What is interesting about it is that the cars are just parked inside, like furniture or art pieces. That sets them off nicely.

We just had to get rid of things, 993James993, and not buy anything we can't use. We have nothing on tables or to display. The table tops are bare. The house imposes that life style. In a way, it is liberating and relaxing.

The difficulty is the garage, since we car guys do tend to accumulate car stuff, tools, wheel, spare parts, etc. I try to keep that down too but with less success.

I really like the "hot rod," "50s" and other garages on this thread. Very different from mine, but so interesting and so consistent. A lot of it is very "American," and I mean that in the best possible way. I am thinking of getting an iPad just so I can browse through these pages.

Here are more shots of the house, the last, after which we concentrate on garages. And also my good friend Chewbakka, who loved the workshop. he passed away last week at age 13.

Very interesting, Corsario. The only Corbusier house in the Americas. So you are from Argentina? PurSang makes very good Bugatti Type 35B replicas there.

That is an absolutely beautiful setup. I love the layout, and I mean I'm really drooling. Very clean and organized, exactly how I like it.

The shop is amazing, as is the collection that resides in it. A true connoisseur's shop.

I'm sorry about your friend's passing. Mine is 14, and these days I cherish everyone I get with him. RIP.

Manila is a cement town. I don't know why that is so. It could be due to the typhoons or perhaps just the inertia of practice. Anyway, the craftsmanship evident in the wooden structures in the U.S. shown on this thread would be rare in these parts, unfortunately.

The garage was originally a closed rectangular box about 48'x16' with an open carport at one end. In the redesign, we extended the depth to 21' and enclosed the carport for a new total length of 65'. That allows parking for 6 cars, although we reserved 2 bays as a working area. The shape is now an "L," with parking for 2 more cars, some storage, a laundry area, and a room at the foot of the L.

This is typical construction here, with cement columns and beams, poured cement slab roof, and hollow block walls.

I am glad the design appeals to some of you. As I said, it is very modern and not commonly liked. Thanks for the condolences too; it is hard to lose our faithful friends.

Best regards,

Andres
