I got these on ebay for $13 shipped.

They are definitely not new and they are short but they are perfect for my BMW motorcycle kit, that's what I wanted.

They don't have a series (like 13, 14, etc) on them but they each have a different letter mark. And some say Made In Germany, others just say Germany an in different fonts so I'm guessing they are from different years.

Anyway, I like them and they are perfect for what I want them for.:bounce:

13 Series Open Box wrenches.

As to dating them they are prior to 1982 as the 82 Catalog shows the size raised in the shank. Refer image.

Same Cat shows 14 series size stamped so there's a guide.

The letter code is for the blank size from which perhaps 3 sizes could be broached. eg 11mm, 7/16 SAE, 3/16 WW

Who is with me thinking that the forging letter merely denotes a size and not a specific die?

And I think the range is simply alphabetical ascending too.

Images of four wrenches out of the L sized die.

Top to bottom
1/2"
13mm
5/16BS 1/4W
1/4

I'll now claim that the 1/4 is pre 1955 as that dual sizing for English spanners was standardised/formalised early 1950's

Reverse view, all show L with variations in text and font.

I dont know humber2, but they are some cool old wrenches. What year did they start putting "13" on the wrench for this series?
