Hello - I've read and learned a lot from this site and decided I finally needed to get clarification so I'm now a member. I did a search but couldn't really find the answer to my question. So here it goes...

I have a 30x40 polebuildling cabin with 22' walls some of the walls have metal and some wood panel for exterior finish. The building is wrapped in Tyvek and unfinished on the inside, purlins are in but no other work. A local sprayfoam insulation contractor told me he would not be able spray foam in the cabin as the Tyvek would prevent him from having a adhesion to the walls and he would not guaranttee it. He then proceeded to try to sell me on a Blow in Blanket process. I'm not prepared to wire so I told him that would not be feasible at this time. I just need to have about 1" of foam insulation in place to cut down noise, heat/cold, etc., until the time I could fir out and finish the interior... I'd hoped to blow in cellulose or finish with batts.

Is it not advisable to blow in closed cell foam over Tyvek in this situation? Wouldn't the foam be rigid enough between the purlins to hold up? Another thought, could I staple chicken wire to the walls to aide in having spray foam adhere to the area or am I opening up a whole nother can of worms? Thanks again for the great advice.

I heard from a local insulation contractor that an adhesive can be added to spray foam to help it stick to Tyvek and other slick surfaces. He offered to do my barn this way, but I decided to install 1.5 in. foam boards between the purlins myself, instead. Ask around.

My buddy's pole barn was insulated in the exact manner you described, spray foam in the wall cavity with tyvek on the outside. The insulator said it was not an issue because of the rigidity of the foam when cured. It worked out great.

I would think that the spray foam is sticky enough to stick to the tyvek and be held in place on the purlins without any extra adhesive. The chicken wire sounds like a good idea.
