My floor turned out good... despite my ignorance

After having issues with epoxy-coat.com on my walls (my fault, not theirs) http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73291
I decided to do my floor and despite my ignorance and best efforts, it turned out nice. I would have to say, it's almost fool proof!
Never having done this before, I was nervous and didn't know what to expect.
I poured wrong, got my math wrong, rollered and squeegeed wrong, threw flakes wrong over-thought the directions (they really are pretty simple) and I still managed to get a nice floor out of it!
Black base coat with red, white and graphite flakes!

And I must say this stuff is strong!!! After brain-farting and leaving my roller on an uncovered part of my concrete over night I had to whack it with a hammer to get it loose and this is the result!

Looks sharp! Did you clear coat it, or is that the gloss from the base coat only? Also curious, can you elaborate on what you meant by throwing the flakes wrong?

Looks great, I really like the color combo although grease and oil may be hard to see.

Also would like to know if you did a clear coat.

Wow - that looks great! I can't wait to get my concrete floor fixed so I can pick up some of the epoxy-coat stuff. They're only about 5 minutes from my house.

Thanks guys. No clear coat. That's the gloss from the base coat. Epoxy-coat.com's product is designed to be a one coat application. They do sell a clear coat but are also very clear that you do not NEED it with the average application.

By "throwing the flakes wrong" I just meant that I've got some heavier distribution in a few places and also towards the end of the bags of flakes they got to be more like big dust particles than flakes and I threw that as well and a few spots look more like sprinkles than flakes. My eyes see those spots every time I'm in the garage; but in all reality I doubt anyone else would really notice.

Thanks. I rented a walk-behind diamond grinder. $95 for the day. It took about 3-4 hours. IMHO money well spent in the face of being on hands and knees for a day or more doing it with a hand grinder.

Dude,

Look great...now THAT was what I was hoping my "epoxy" floor would look like. I went with the water based box store solution and while it's "fine" it is was not worth the washing/grinding/washing/etching investment once you have see what your floor looks like.

Wow, I never would have thought that a black base would look so good.
But the lighter chips really bring it back & brighten it up.

Timdhawk... It looks great!, I checked out their website... It seems like a great product. The thing that pains me is no matter what I choose to do the floor in, it is going to be serious dollars to do. My floor is 1728 sq ft. so in the meantime, I will just admire yours and all the other fine shops on here.

That is one fine looking floor. It could not have turned out better...looks like you used quite a bit of flakes to brighten it up. Looks very good.

You didn't do anything wrong. It's too difficult to control. Even the best seasoned pro will have a difficult time broadcasting chips evenly on a light and med broadcast. This is why we usually only offer full broadcasts. Great job.
