I made mention of this in this topic / thread "The Beast Runs".
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10871&showall=1
But deciced I should also post it here considering the fabrication work involved. I have built this so I can purchase Bio Diesel fuel in Bulk and then create my own blended fuel or just buy blended Bio Diesel.
I started with this fuel tank off a Freightliner >

it will hold 60 US Gallons or 227 Litres. For some reason it could not be used here so was a good cheap buy.
Next I got a fuel pump for it >

This is what it looks like on the frame >

This is what it looks like today >

It also has a lock up tool box for the pump a spare tyre mount and a jerry can mount as well.

On the back I have mounted a tow bar for that odd time I may need to tow something else. I have yet to paint much of it and add the wiring, so will update later like my other two fabrication projects I am working on at present.

Great looking tank. What kind of operation do you have? Just asking because around here you would have to make 4 trips to town just to fill one piece of equipment. Sure would like to have one that looked that good and would hold 500 gal plus.

Looks like a great set up.
Thank you

Two of these tanks came on an Imported Freightliner truck so as to why they could not be used here I do not know, but just perfect for what I wanted as the size 60 US Gallons is not considered bulk quantity. At present it is just for my own use see 'The Beast Runs' and I hope later to add a Diesel Gen Set to my property for power. I want to be able to blend my own fuel so the trailer is the best way to do this as I can purchase Bio Diesel in Bulk.

Not 100% happy :( with the tow bar on the back as last night I discovered if another trailer was connected it would bind so will have to redo the ball fitting before I do anything more.

I have been trying to find a 300 gal tank for at the house instead of 4 55 gal drums but drums were free and a tank with stand is $400-500 used.

Think Truck Wreckers as I may just go back for the other tank yet and set it up as a semi fixed to keep in the yard. Any fixed tank here would create council interest and require permits. Since I started on this I have seen many Diesel truck fuel tanks that could be used as I have done.

Spoke to David Kennedy for you today, i believe that diesel power magazine will be contacting you via email real soon.
OK, Thanks. I got your email  If I have this finished I may just have to email Diesel Power a photo with the Freighter (Beast) towing the trailer :lol_hitti.

Common to have a tank around here to hold fuel oil to heat with in the areas without natural gas.

I grew up in Maine and the old 275 "basement" tanks can be found for $50-100 used. The local tank place laughed at me when I told him I was looking to spend no more than $250-300.

I passed your email today to dieselpower magazine [ David ] and told him that if he did not put your truck in his magazine, i know where he lives. He got the picture and then laughed at me.
Get a good disk of photos, including key build shots together as well as a bio on the build. It has to be short and sweet. Do not overload him with info and word it so the average guy will understand.
He is a busy guy, so be patient.

Getting off topic a bit here I believe.:(

I understand here a legality size for oil heaters. Gas (Propane -LPG) is more popular here as heating oil is so expensive now.

OK, Not going to rush him.

Painted the frame yesterday and in keeping it is all silver. I have also mounted and partly wired the lights, I have used all LED's. Still have a little to do and will hopefully update more soon.

We are talking about the same thing, fuel tanks used for pumping fuel, so no, don't thing it's off topic. I was just talking about how it was hard to find something for cheap.

I have finally finished the trailer.
l_5d0d9c53536f477d8b6b60e58b25e46f.jpg

Here you can see I have the LED lights fitted as well as the tow ball mount (modified it to work) and the trailer plug wiring so I can connect another trailer. LED Lights are almost full width. The Jerry Can is so I can also carry some conventional Diesel.
l_21e8c6794d4d4e9e80874ebe49db5a37.jpg

On the side of the tank is where the fuel lines and return lines would have been. The return line has been blocked (hidden behind the handle) and a quick connect fitting has been connected. I connect the pump here to pump out my Fuel, note also the dust cover.
l_14680cdb34cb459e91c7585f6f395e1b.jpg

The pump is set up and modified to accept quick connect fittings so I can lock the pump away in the tool box. Note also the dust covers. The short length of hose (in right of photo) has a filter on the end and this is so I can use the pump to pump from another drum or tank into the trailer.
How do you get the fuel out of the drum ?
Did that answer your question ?

Spare wheel will get a cover and I have also made a flag pole to mount on the tow bar when at truck shows
eureka.gif

and this is the flag I will fly. Eureka from the Miners Rebellion.

An update.

Recently we have had a Diesel fuel shortage here due to a refinery problem / breakdown and it was pointed out to me how easy it would be to syphon fuel from the trailer ( and for that matter from HOTFR8 the F4 ) so I went looking for some way to lock the fuel caps. Guess what :willy_nil:sad: I could not buy anything to replace the cap with a lock off the shelf.

l.jpg

The cap on the fuel trailer is a little bigger than the two on the F4 so I worked on this one for a start for my design.

This is what I came up with. A simple cover that slips over the cap and with a bolt then fits the cover hard to the cap so a padlock in the end of the bolt then locks it all in place. making them out of Galvanised steel also makes them look pretty good.

I have two on the F4 (HOTFR8) but still need a little work to make it fit the fuel trailer as the Freightliner fuel cap is a little bigger.

Anyone that really wants to nick it will just drill a hole in the tank, this happens all the time over here to large trucks parked up overnight and with domestic heating oil sadly.

If they did that to me I would take the law into my own hands. The harder you make it for them to get into something the more likely they will leave it alone.
One of my other fears was water or something being added in an act of vandalism. As Shopnut stated in my Sheddwellers post we do not live in a perfect world.:(
