looking for info on an older tool

got this from my grandfathers collection after he passed. just kinda curious if anyone knew much about it and could share some info about who made it and maybe about how old it might be. i think its pretty cool looking and one of the few things i grabbed when they were sorting things out. thanks

That kind'a looks like set of 'ring lock pliers' where a metal ring would be forced down the handle. But that is not the right shape handle.

I think it's just a locking jaw plier (like a Vise-Grip but not a Vise-Grip).

What does the stamping say? I cannot read all of it.

BMC MFG Corp. is "Botnick Motor Corporation".

I have an early NOS pair in the original box.

Note mine say "Patent Applied For". That patent (2478728) was applied for in 1946 and eventually granted in August, 1949. Consequently, we can say mine date from 1946 to 1949, while yours were made sometime after.

I believe the company ceased operations in the 1960s.

cool thanks! i've never seen anything like em before so they kinda stuck out to me when i saw em which made me want to grab em.

They are pretty handy little tools. I have the number 6 and number 9 models and being able to adjust the teeth gap to exact intervals is a nice feature. I really like the Bakelite red handles.
