MotoFloor Garage Floor Tiles - How easy to REMOVE EACH ??

I have 90 MotoFloor (Rebranded RaceDeck) plastic interlocking garage floor tiles on delivery to me this coming tuesday (Feb 13th, 2007) from Costco. I know it's EASY to install them (simply lay themside by side one at a time and gently step on, or rubber mallot each to lock together). However HOW EASY it is to REMOVE?

The reason I ask this is because is because I work at Canadian Tire and they have their own MASTERCRAFT brand which is similar in look and style as MotoFloor/Racedeck (however only in grey). I removed two out of the box and found it fairly easy to SNAP them TOGETHER.. However to REMOVE them... Well let me tell you!! I tried everything to unlock the MASTERCRAFT brand and all I got was VERY sore finger tips after trying to unlock 1 tile! In fact the stress of trying and TRYING to figure out how to unlock it caused the female rings to lighten up (close to a stress fracture). In fact the ONLY way I was able to remove the tiles was to use something to wedge into EACH CLIP one at a time to UNCLIP them. Well if that is the case, 8 clips per tile x 90 tiles is 720 individual clips to unclip!!!!

Now.. You are probably asking yourself WHY I would want to ask how to remove them. Not like I'm going to remove them constantly.. Actually I will 4 times a year.. I purchased them for my indoor (and possibly outdoor) car shows. This means I snap 90 together, and then at the end of the show I need to unsnap them out.

So basing my COMPARISON OF THE MASTERCRAFT BRAND TO THE MOTOFLOOR which have yet to arrive....

1. I am wondering how EASY the MotoFloor tiles are at REMOVING compared to the Mastercraft brand.
2. Do I have to unclip EACH and every clip one at a time like the Mastercraft?
3. During removal of each tile, how likely are the clips to stess and break? Like I said, the moment I tried removing the Mastercraft brand, the female rings were discolorating due to flex stress.
4. One person told me to use a BROOM HANDLE but I can't see how that would work.. that won't unclip each clip.. perhaps someone could explain?
5. What size were the boxes that arrived?

Thanks VERY VERY MUCH for your time!

BTW: This is what car (Camaro) the tiles will be featured with.

Thanks

Ever thought about just rolling the floor up when you are done?

Race Deck FastDeck flooring that you can roll out.

Race Deck FastDeck flooring is a patented living hinge system allows for easy rollout / roll-up installations. Ideal for Race Teams, hospitality areas, retail displays, and car shows.

Check it out at http://www.zr1.net/ZR1store/floor.html

To answer your question RaceDeck is much easier to snap apart.

How do the tiles disassemble?

Always pull the male "peg" out from female "loop", or you can break a part the tiles at the joint bending the tiles "back-to-back". You can break apart the tiles by holding the finish side up and breaking them at the seam over your knee. You'll not harm tile locks by disassembling this way, but NEVER fold them "face-to-face".

Thanks very much for your reply. I am having a difficult time trying to picture exactly what they mean.

Do you know anything about the "broom handle" disassembly technique that I've heard about multiple times? I've also heard about the technique of apparently using a metal spatula and prying it between each clip to remove the tiles.

Probably too late but Swiss Trax DiamondTrax are really simple to assemble and dissaemble. I'm trying out their product to see how it works in the winter and have moved the tiles they sent me to a number of locations and they just snap apart and show no signs of stress or cracking. When a complete floor of them is assembled you just slip a small putty knife between the seams and they pop open.

Camarosource,

Were you trying to see how much you could irritate everyone on this board by resurfacing every post about Motofloor that's been done in recent history?! That was one of the dumbest things we've seen on a bulletin board in a long time.

What were you thinking?

and for the record, I am in a great hurry to know the answer and short of PMing everyone on here which I am not about to do, I looked for discussions where it was already discussed. Rather than starting an offtopic (same topic but not what was originally discussed), I chose to see if anyone could help me in my post. I didn't see anything wrong with that.. It was a pure and innocent attempt.

My appologies if people on this board took it as anything other than me needing desperate help and counting on people here who already have it to help.

Somewhere I posted aome info about the CDN Tire tiles, anyways to summarize: I snapped a few together in the store, at this stage I thought they feeled brittle, went to break them apart as I have done several times with my Race Deck floor and the loops broke off. Not just one or two but all of them on every tile!! Dont waste your money on these even if you get a special price. Its expensive by comparison but Race Deck is the best I found and I am very happy with it.

The MotoFloor tiles are brittle and the loops broke right off? But it's made by the same company as RaceDeck.. Thanks :)

I got the tiles and they came in 4 slabs per. I tried removing 1 and found it VERY tightly locked. I am scared that if I put too much pressure trying to unlock them (doing it wrong), that force will just snap the female rings off.

How exactly do you remove the tiles from each other?
do you lift straight up? Do you lift at an angle? Which ones do you lift up (the ones with the female loops or the male latches?).

There are WAY better quality than the mastercraft that is for sure!!

I replaced 4 of my Motofloor tiles. I used a putty knife to pop out the male tabs from the loops. Easy to do and as easy to put new tiles in. The tiles that I used to replace the removed ones were also in a slab of 4. I basically unsnapped the male side from the loops.. You don't have to worry about being gentle since they are pretty sturdy.

i forget which side snaps from the other, but it only goes one way. i stood on the edge of one tile and lifted the other, starting at one corner and unsnapping the connectors down the line. managed to do a 450-ish square foot garage without breaking any of the connectors, so they're not that flimsy.
