My girlfriend and I have lived in our house for a little over a year and one of the things I hated the most about the house was the unfinished garage. The rest of the house is very nice about 2200 sq. feet, not bad for our fist house me at 23 and her at 20. Well after a few weeks of working on the garage with my father we just about have the garage finished out. When we started it was not much to look at, unfinished drywall, no insulation, one electrical outlet and one light. My girlfriend was just about to buy her Z06 and I hated parking the Viper in such a nasty place. And after of finding this picture on the internet it inspirited me to get going on my garage.

Enjoy the pics of our project!

This is pretty much what the garage looked like before we started:

Here it is after ripping out 2 walls of drywall, adding insulation and a total of 7 electrical outlets then putting up new drywall.

Just to let you know taping and mudding in the drywall *****! :D

Then I decided to paint and add insulation to the garage doors, here is a before shot:

After:

After painting texture new lighting and hanging Gladiator cabinets:

After looking at all my choices of flooring ie epoxy, racedeck and whatnot, and to stay within budget I decided on black/white checkerboard 2x2 Armstrong VCT.

Cleaning and leveling the concrete:

Starting to lay tile:

Finished laying all the tile! Not bad for two accountants as someone told us.

After waiting a week for the adhesive to dry and after the first coat of polyurethane:

Eight coats and 8 hours later:

Finished! Well close, I hung up some banners, a Viper neon clock and so on. Just need a few posters and such to hang up and finish some small painting. It was nice to get all the cabinets, toolbox, air compressor and such out of the kitchen lol. :rolling:

The garage looks great, as well as the cars.

I don't mean to be nosey, but what do you guys do for a living? You seem to be doing quite well for yourself at such a young age.

How did you insulate the garage door? Is that a kit or just some of the rigid insulation from Home Depot/Lowes stuck in the door cavities? I can't tell what the gray stuff edging the insulpanels is ,either. Nice job on the whole thing. When's the wedding anyway?

Poly coating.

Please provide some information on the polyurethane coating. What did you use, how did you apply it and what is the expected wear? I put down a vct floor in my workshop last spring and have been messing around with different polishes trying to get something that gives the gloss. To this point I have not found anything that works. Thanks!

Excellent Garage! I see the Illinois plates on the vette. Can that tile handle cold winters? Or is your garage heated? I'd like to use the vct tile if it could handle the cold

I used Butchers High Noon UHS and it is moped on. You can also get a better shine with a high speed buffer but it looks pretty good as is. I used less than one gallon for 8 coats. I would strip the floor before you put this down.

For the insulation on the door I used 4x8x3/4 sheets and cut them to size, I used some 1" wide gray foam to cover the gaps.

We live in Texas, the car came from IL but the garage will soon be heated/cooled.

Nice job!

The black/white tile is always classic. I imagine the 8 coats filled in the minor gaps between the tiles so dirt won't get caught in there. How long did you wait until you put the cars in there and is there still a chance of the tires staining the white tiles under the 8 coats? I imagine you're using the mats as extra insurance?

Now if there was only more women around like you! :)

I waitied a week after I layed the tile to add the coats then waited 24 hours before I parked on it. I wont take any chances staining the tile, but the poly adds an extra layer of protection.

Garage looks Great. I really love how one side is Dodge and the other is Chevy. Glad to see young couples doing very well together, also smart to live together before popping the question. Keep on doing what your doing because it looks like it is working.

Cool looking garage. I really like that black and white floor, looks classy, but it'd get ruined in my cutting, welding and grinding dirty garage.

Your good lady wouldn't be called Brittany Myers by any chance would she?

Very nice garage make-over! But one question, how could you disgrace a Corvette by forcing it to sit next to a Viper? That's cruel and unusual if you ask me. :lol_hitti

About 1526 miles. :bounce: And yes the concrete has to be smooth or you will see all the imperfections through the VCT.

I am in DFW, Texas. If it is smooth just clean it and you are good.

Is there some kind of vinyl covering the on 4 x 8 sheets of foam used on the garage door insulation? Or was that surface put on after the foam was in place? How did you attach the foam to the door? What kind of adhesive? Looks very nice and well done. I'm sure it will make a lot of difference in the Texas heat and sun.

Pattymelt... what kind of leveling do you use to prepare the floor for tile? I'm also curious about what materials you used to insulate the garage doors.

I'm a die-hard GM guy but the Viper is hot (is actually still one of my dream cars)!

Man I should have been an accountant in Texas instead of what I do here in California. It should take me about 10 years to afford a Viper or ZO-6 Vette.

In my defence, I do have a wife and 2 kids to pay for too.

Nice garage!

Well, it depends!! If you are a "dink - dual income, no kids" - you maybe can by a couple of hot yellow sports cars. The colors are right, that's for sure. LOVE the yellow (naturally)! On the other hand, I don't think "accountants" make that much............. at least none that I know. I have plenty of "degrees" & I can say, w/o a shadow of a doubt that accounting/cost accounting had to be the most boring stuff I studied in graduate school. Ugh.........:) :)

See ya. :hellobye:

apparently i went to college for the wrong ****
