Yep, its this one AGAIN! New New pics on post #7

Thought I'd resurrect a dead thread rather than start a new one.... New pics at post 5.

These 2 are on my local Craigslist and was curious if anyone recognized the one on the left? Owner says it has no markings at all.

With that photo, he must not want to sell them that badly. No markings, no numbers, no name, its obviously from the land far, far, away. That long handle does look intreging on the left.

I get a few of these guys on my local CL. The last one I bought was Blue, Rusty, and Heavy. It was also a 4" Morgan with a swivel base in great shape under the surface rust!! I am going to go look at this one on Monday if he still has it/them.

Strange. he can't find not even one numeral or digit on the left one? Don't drive to far.

There is a guy selling a workbench that came with his house. Either a very young kid or a numskull. I had to tell him what the vise was. He said he would sell it to me separate but hasn't gotten back to me with any info. anyone care to test their eyes and try to ID a vise in a terrible CL pic?? Thanks!

Yep, I am resurrecting it TWICE! What can I say, I like my old threads. I didn't pick up any of the previously shown ones.

I think it is a Parker Humpback, but I could use some pickier eyes to show me why I am wrong. If I ever get a hold of the owner, I will go look and see for sure and hopefully bring it home on the cheap! lol

Thank you Nick, It sure does have a crazy round void for the Pipe jaw area. Anyone else want to add some info, stories, allegations, comparisons or just tell a joke?

It sure looks like a Parker Whale to me too. One day I shall put on my eye patch, wooden leg and go hunting the Great Parker Whale! Mostly I will sneak back down into Nick's basement while he is watching Dog the Bounty Hunter reruns and see if he has one.

Its a whole lot smaller than it looks in the pics. :( Its OLD! :) Its heavy and its still in my Trunk! :wtf: Pics to come, but Looking for guesses on the maker.

Heres a hint, The company name is also the town it was built in.

Erie.....just to be different. That sounds like a really cool find. Could you finally post some photos for us old farts? We like the clear ones. On the other hand, you do have us checking this post for answers.

I think I have a very old Parker Whale ripoff. The jaws look Parker, The humpback shape looks Parker, it all looks Parker, but its not.... Any other guesses? Here's a couple pics.

Here's another similar one that received a patent in 1865 for the pipe jaws. Check out the jaws, the front collar, and the overall shape. Looks very Parker-like to me. Anyone have evidence of the Parker combination vise prior to 1865? Maybe this is where the design came from. Here's the patent info. The company was H.B. Smith & Co. - Westfield, MA.

Oswego Tool Company In Oswego, NY.

As best as I can tell, Oswego tool was eventually Bought by/ Merged with/ renamed as Sawyer tool as well. I have another Sawyer vise that has a very similar OT cast into it as well as Sawyer Tool company, Oswego, NY.

This one is so close to a Parker though, I can't help but wonder if Oswego/Sawyer wasn't either a full on ripoff of Parker. Maybe they were made by Parker for Oswego? Maybe a former Co-worker of Parker started the Oswego tool Co? Any other info would be appreciated if you have any.

Here's a pic from my other Sawyer vise also. its an Oswego #24 by Sawyer tool co in Oswego, NY. Notice how the lock down wrench is the same idea as a Parker?

The whole jaw assembly rotates , straight jaw on one side , pipe jaws on the other, can be set at any angle and locks there as pressure is applied. tried to find some info on it and found Co. was around from 1800's till 1920's some time , any body seen one similar? Thanks Greg
