so i found this awesome rolla bench, but it did not have enough room for all my tools. I had sold one to a friend that was just BEAT down. after I bought a new one I got the old one back and cut it open to get the box with in the box. here are pictures of the progress. ace hardware alis chambers orange is the closest color i found, My tool box was red at one point, but it is a faded orange color now after fifty or so years. it took three cuts to make the drawer gaps look natural. it was a mess and a pain in the ***, however I am very happy with the end results. The best part is the matching handles, I used rivets from ace to put the handles on. I had to use a piece of steel with leather on it and a bunch of different hammers, clamps and punches. as I said the donor box was beat down, it has a 22 caliber bullet stuck in one of the new drawers that I bondo-ed right over after I wire wheeled the faces to bare metal, enjoy my work,JBW:thumbup:

As you said, a lot of work, but it came out nice. Setting rivets without the right tools is a genuine pain. At least you went to the trouble to make it look original instead of using pop rivets as most would have done.

When the KR300b were new, they could be ordered with two more big drawers in the bottom instead of the open bin. That's the way I'd have bought mine as the bin just collects junk.

My problem is I never could find the right drawers to fill in the KR300b, so I just kept buying more old Snap-on boxes.

Ya, I was worried about the handles not matching when i first thought about adding drawers.I was originally going to use dovetailed drawers with a piece of sheet metal bent around the drawer to create the look of an original. Then i ran into the donor box!
