Back in April I decided to put up a garage/shop I wanted enough space to work on the car and my truck and still have space for some woodworking and metal machining.

So after doing some research I went with an Olimpia Steel Building.

So far the quality and ease of pulling it together has been good all the holes lined up I have not had to modify anything to fit.

The plan drawings could be more detailed more than a few curses were said figuring out the layout of top purlins after I realized I bolted them on with the front end on the inside of the building.

It took 3 days to put the frame up with 3 of us working it is now at the point I can finish it by myself.

I poured a radiant heat slab that will be supplied with solar panels a wood stove is also going in, I have a steady supply of wood scrap from my chainsaw carving.

MY goal with the solar is to keep it at least above freezing I have 160 sq feet of panels and plan to bring it up to around 500 sq feet.

I will update on the rest of the build as I go along

Nice looking build, when you say solar do you mean hot water solar collectors? Do you have any pictures of them? I put PEX in my floor of my barn I built a few months ago and I have thought about building some solar collectors to attempt to heat my floor. I have enough material laying around to make one up, so I might as well try before I buy a hot water heater or boiler.

Look forward to seeing some more pics of your build.

The solar is hot water, I am using pool roll out panels with polycarbonate twinwall 6 mm glazing I will use photo voltaic panels to run the pumps.

This will not be done for this winter most of the work I am doing myself and I still need to make money with my business so time is limited, I hope to have it all insulated and ready to work in by the end of winter.

I do have a picture of a hot air collector at my carving barn it kicks out 120 degree air with a lot of flow in the middle of winter.

Got my final inspection, still have to do more landscaping and gravel the driveway.

Inside I still have to put up the insulation.

Most of the work I have done myself on spare time it seemed like I was never going to get it done now finally the end is near.

Installing the overhead door was a lot easier than I anticipated.

I plan on putting gutters up next.

I'd appreciate any pictures you might be able to share on how your adding the insulation. I need to retrofit an existing building and have researched many methods but I still looking for a cost effective way I can do it myself.

A few pics of the insulation install in the roof.

Ideally the straps and insulation would be put in before the roof panels but doing it by myself and living in the northeast I new I could not do it that way without rain issues.

The plastic I added for ease of handling while installing, a full fabric vapor barrier will go over it all when I am done it is like a white tarp material should reflect ambient light very nicely.

I cut the plastic and duct taped it to the insulation to help maneuver it in the straps, once in place I cut the tape to let the insulation fully expand.

I have to box in the skylights next to finish the roof, the walls look to be very easy hangers with barbs attach to the beams for the insulation to go on when I get to that I will post some more pictures.

Any advise for me? I'm putting up a 45x60x16 olympia building.

Did you get anything besides the plans "not for use for construction"?

My site is 4 foot out of level. I'm using compacted soil from my new house digout to level the site.

Was your slab the same dimension of your building? Some buildings require a larger slab than the building.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you buy the building, they will supply you with anchor bolt plans. The plans you have are a rough out line of the buildings. You can get the base ready from those and when you get the anchor bolt plans, your concrete guy or the builder will use those to layout the anchor bolts and edge details.
