Just saw a Irwin Vise Grip ad on TV. Are sales down?? I don't think Irwin makes anything here in the USA anymore. I would rather buy Channellocks.

I saw one today also, and chuckled. Yeah, keep telling yourselves sales are down because you're not advertising enough.

If you're going to make a tool in China the price should reflect that.
Irwin products are way overpriced for what you get.

Especially when their closest competitor is Channellock. Channellocks are still made in the USA and cost around the same if not less.

My dad still has and uses the first ones that he bought 40 years ago when he first started in the trade. Now that I think of it, he has not purchase a tongue and groove plier ever since.

I noticed WALMART same store sales in the US have been declining for a few years also.
Fools are waking up alright , it took them over 30 years but it's happening now.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/WalMa...RhbmRh?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=7&asset=&ccode=

How about, to make things interesting....we BAN selling anything made in China, or anywhere else besides the USA, on Black Friday, and then let's see them price match each other.

China banking on millions of American idiots to go out and use their credit cards to go further in debt buying Chinese crappola to boost China's economy. lol

Stay out of the stores this Christmas - send China a message, and thee greedy retailers like Wal Mart,

Anyway all are made in China with no qualities. Do not waste your money on the **** to fill your home and buy what is essential. When you buy more, more jobs are created in China and other parts of the world.

Is this the ad? I have not seen them here but it is not uncommon for things like this not to make it into major media markets.

I'll let others mock it.

Dunno, but the commercial pisses me off. It's like Irwin's giving me a big F-U for not being a blue collar worker. I suppose that's part of their strategy, but it's irritating.

In any case, I've never seen a tradesmen use Irwin Vise Grip non-locking pliers. It's usually Channellocks or Klein. Maybe it's b'c the Irwin's are relatively new, but probably not. I have a pair, and they're okay. But I won't buy anymore Irwin tools. I tried newer vise grips, and they were utter junky. From now on, I only buy Grip-on.

Yep. The video says F-U to me for not being their target customer, and then praises working men. I'm still angry about how they closed down the Dewitt plant. Shows that they only care about the bottom line dollar sign.

Are any Irwin/Vise Grip tools made in the USA anymore? Maybe a few Hanson tools?

Most men (at least those who know the business end of a left handed monkey wrench) know the quality of manufactured items has gone down through overseas production. However, until the females in this country are convinced to stop buying solely-overseas-made goods and insist on at least a parity of US to foreign goods available in stores, it is not going to change. Just stop and watch the gender shopping at Target, WM, KM, Sears, JCP, any clothing stores, HD, Lowes, etc. Women don't seem to give a rats a$$ about who they are giving their money to.

They seem to have disabled comments on youtube.

Wise, given it wouldn't let me post this:

Vise-Grips were a great tool. That is, they were an American icon before Irwin (Rubbermaid) got a hold of the brand and shipped production to China.

And now they have the audacity to post a commercial celebrating the "working hands...that keep America going strong."

Just plain pathetic.

Haha that's funny... I can say with almost complete certainty they would have experienced a $***storm of negative comments should they have been allowed on that video... I certainly would have chimed in ;)

FYI the Irwin hacksaw, reciprocating blades, and holesaws are still made domestically.

channellock does a locking plier?

Not sure about now, but they used to. They were actually made in Spain by Grip-On though. Far better than any Vise Grip ever made. Here is a pair that I have.
