I have come across some BGS Technic tools from socket sets to plier sets. The vendor states that they are "Manufactured in Germany". Is this true? I thought BGS Technic were a German company selling Asian import tools?

You're right.

Their socket sets are made by Listol Co., Taiwan.

Thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately there is an Ebay seller that is listing many of these tools as "Manufactured in Germany"..
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BGS-Crowfoot...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c178692ea

Edit: I note that the seller changed some of the listings after I contacted him.

Additionally: anyone know the COA of these BGS Technica "Germany" 3/4's: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BGS-German-m...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c17a528b3

Apparently they are "German Made" lol

I wouldn't say it's the sellers fault , it is the companies fault for putting Germany in their brand name even though the tools are not actually made in germany.

I've been caught out a few times , everyone has , but you wouldn't be wanting Asian (excluding Japan) tools for that kind of inflated price.

Some of the pliers listed actually look like my Stahlwille, especially the grips.. convincing rip-off or maybe, just maybe Stahlwille rebadged? I guess I am "wishful thinking"..

Wishful thinking, I'm afraid, those are sourced from the unfortunately named 'Hangbang' company in China.

I wouldn't say it's the sellers fault , it is the companies fault for putting Germany in their brand name even though the tools are not actually made in germany.

Private listings, no returns, little or no relevant feedback. In some cases I'd cut the vendor some slack, but IMHO this isn't one of them.

ok the pliers always have a "Euro-Look" whether its BGS, Toptul, Knipex, Stahlwille etc. they are designed to look european or german for the Euro market and designed to look like Channellock for the the american market (see Toptul etc.).

ps: these are also not from switzerland nor germany :D like the rest from BGS...

Photos of poor quality BGS Technic Germany 13-piece 1/2" Crowfoot Spanner Set, 20-32 mm (Art. 1757)

No country of manufacture was printed anywhere on the product or packaging.
This is an unused set and so the strength of the metal and the ability of this tool to do its job is unknown.
The handle did not fit into all the spanners.

Below: The 23mm is too big for case (lower right).
Foam does not hold all parts in place when the case is closed.
The case, handle and extension are not branded.

Below: Burrs and grinding marks etc.

Below: The only identifying 'BGS' marks on this product are low quality laser engravings on each spanner.
The other side has the size stamped.

Below: Cut-outs not centred or aligned.

Below: Some finger thicknesses do not scale up with spanner size.
32mm finger is thinner than the 28mm finger.

Below: Fingers extend around the nut by varying amounts.

Even though this thread of mine is fairly old, I am still irritated to see the same seller still listing items as "BGS Germany". The feedback for the seller shows some have been clearly mislead. Furthermore in the sellers feedback the Seller clearly states "All BGS technic Germany products are made under licence in E.U." which is absolute rubbish. Last time I checked Taiwan was not a member of the European Union.

It is frustrating to see that BGS still lists "Germany" on their logo:
http://www.bgstechnic.com/?lang=en - This only serves to further mislead and confuse.

It was my understanding that they were not allowed to do this according to: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1103539&postcount=7

Ebay (if not them then the EU) should crack down on deliberately misleading ads like this as it is not catching "us", it is catching those that know no better.

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to thank you for the excellent photos. I was searching for info on BGS tools and you've certainly helped me make my mind up! :D

You guys rock. I was looking for a HSS Metric tap and die set and I found this BGS set on E bay. I went to the BGS site for more info and found it contained every size known to man. There was even 7, 9 and 11mm. Ain't hardly ever seen one 'o them. Tungsten steel,120 pcs. on E Bay for $120. Then came the important question. Is it junk? After seeing all the great pictures of those flare crow foot sockets with the description of how well they fit, my question was answered. I would not buy anything from a company that sells those sockets. That stuff makes HF look like Snap-on.

Hi guys,

Many thanks for the heads up on this!

I was thinking to buy some sockets but after reading the posts I will go for one of the below,

Hazet, Stahwille, Gedore, Facom.

Cheers
Nikos
