I really can't choose a favorite between the two.
I think the Cornwell is much more comfortable, the head is more rounded and without the sharp edges of the Snap-On.
I also think the the chrome is a little better on the Cornwell.
If I had to guess, I would say the Cornwell is also probably the more bullet proof of the two.

But the Snap-On is of course a much finer tooth ratchet, and it's a sealed head.

The amount of friction in the ratcheting mechanism is almost exactly the same between the two.

I put a lot of lube in my cornwell ratchets and they are soooo smooth. But I like dual 80s too.
I just won an auction for three cornwell ratchets tonight!

Own both they are very nice. The Cornwell is indeed bullet proof, few moving parts, easy to clean and a joy to work with.
The snap is also a joy to work with ,I do believe the Cornwell design has been around for a very long time.

Not sure why it is so hard to track down cornwell dealers ,on the other hand snap on does a better job at selling their tools.

With some luck, I'll be getting my hands on a JR72 soon. Can't wait. I'm keeping my eyes out for Cornwell in the area though.

My go-to is a 3/8 flex Cornwell with the blue handle. Love it.

The Cornwells are by far the better looking ones out there. I have the 1/3, 3/8, and 1/2 sizes... Great quality and feels great on the hands.

the cornwell ratchets are, hands down, my favorite tools, even over my matco 88. they are hefty, comfortable, good looking, and built like tanks. my go-to ratchet is the long handled JR40. get it lubed up good and it'll be super smooth. highly recommended.

i have that snapon ratchet. Love everything about it. Looks like it has a smaller head and more teeth than the cornwell. 2 very important features to me. And durability is of no concern, if it ever breaks, free replacement.

Yea.. too bad you can't cut the head's off and weld the Snap-on onto the Cornwell body.

The Cornwell feels better, has a more compact head, I like the selector better and it's proudly made in the USA.

Unfortunately it's about impossible to buy one new.

I noticed that the Cornwell ratchet is Made In USA because it is stamped on the ratchet head. The Snap On ratchet does not say anything so I have no idea were it is made.:bounce:

In a hands down beauty contest for ratchets Cornwell has the winners. I picked up a JR72 a few weeks ago from a friend and it's hands down the best looking ratchet I own. I havent had a chance to use it yet but it feels super nice. The JR 30 is 30 tooth right? Sometimes numbers can be deceptive. Like Snap-On's Classic series boxes 96, 78 and 60. You would think that would mean the length. But Snap-On adds the length and width and comes out with the number.

Cornwell: classic design, beautiful, thick chrome, unique shaped ergonomic handle; I got a used one... the chrome was flaking off the end of the handle. The shape of the end of the handle; I think is prone to this, from contact with cement when working, because of the nature of the shape/design, it sticks out and will be the primary part of the ratchet that hits the surface of your work area. I sent mine in to Cornwell and they sent me a brand new one. The tooth count is low but the ratchet design is tried and true. It really feels like a pro quality ratchet but is a little on the heavy side, IMHO.

Snap-On: what can be said that has already been said a thousand times in other threads; great ratchets and modern high tooth design. Only negatives are the selector is a little to wimpy in the 1/4" sizes, some have said they are prone to breakage (I like the 900 series selector; sticks out enough to be a positive feel and easier to "select"). Because of the CNC/CAD design; the edges of the body/head are sharp and the overall shape has lost the rounded and organic quality of earlier designs. Great ratchets; I wish all mine were dual 80s but I appreciate all my earlier series as well.... 70s, 700s, 800s, 900s, etc.

Come on man, You should know by now that everytime you mention the negatives of the Dual 80 is the lack of a USA stamping. What were you thinking:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

So after being frustrated about not being able to find a way to purchase some Cornwell ratchets anywhere, I decided to send an email to see if there was a way I couldn't find to purchase them. They sent me an email back with the name and number of the "district manager" of Florida and said I may be able to set something up with him to purchase over the phone. She also stated that they are set up only to sell to dealers. I just don't get it. Do they not like money? I guess I will contact him and see what I can do about grabbing some new ratchets.

If you have to go through all that you may want to find a ratchet you like almost as good.

Oh, I've never even touched a Cornwell ratchet before. I just love ratchets and trying different ones. I hear nothing but good about Cornwell so I want one.

Yes, I know I'm crazy, haha. :lol_hitti

Ask him if he's willing to do a group buy for GJ members. I want a JR72 but have never seen a Cornwell truck and never seen that ratchet pop up on Ebay.

I've just recently started keeping an eye out for Cornwell, so I am definitely on that. I have a feeling though that if a JR72 pops up, it will be gone before I even see it. :lol_hitti

There was another member here that offered to grab me one from his dealer, and I will definitely take him up on his offer if I can't work something from my end. I will ask anyone I get a hold of if they are interested, and maybe if that other member wants to, he could do the same. A group buy sounds like an excellent idea to me.

I have snap on dual 80's and a few cornwells. The cornwells have been collecting dust for a while. I like them enough to keep them all though. The cornwell is a solid ratchet. If I still had a dealer I would buy more.

I havent heard much about them in a bad way. Most people who have them really like them. The JR72 I have is almost to pretty to use. It has some real flare to it. I like the curves and contours and to be able to fondle it fine chrome plate. Ok I'm done I need a sandwich

i have not used a Cornwell but do have a SO that I find a little uncomfortable in the hand Its the very end that I find cuts into your hand as it need more of a radius on the end to prevent this happening. But that Cornwell looks like you could work with it all day and not have the same problem it looks so nice and if you look at the handle it is the same shape as the old Coca-Cola bottles. Sure would like to track myself down a Cornwell

It's good to know I'm not the only one that's just a little queer for my ratchets. :lol_hitti
