Are there rebuild kits for -V- or -VV- ratchets?

The ones that look like these:

Go to a Sears store. I think they got rid of them but then brought them back. I'm sure someone else can confirm this.

These are commonly known as LLTD's - "long lever tear drop" ratchets. The three you have pictured have the (what I call) "baby rattle" selector knobs.
C-man made them from 1967 thru 1993. The rebuild kits are still available.
A forum member works at a Sears that does rat rebuilds. Maybe he'll chime in and help you out with the kit #'s.
If not, I can dig thru my files.

dang...I just warrantied one yesterday and got a new style ratchet and would have rather had the one I had rebuilt...

I still have a 3/8 and 1/2 drive I'de like to get rebuilt....I'm going to take them apart and clean them and hope for the best...The only reason I dont want to get rid of them is that they have an owners name engraved on them, and I wanted to polish them up, fix them, and give them to that persons son...as if they were my fathers I'de love to have them as heirlooms..

I can't recall the kit numbers off hand but they are available. Due to the guts of those ratchets varying slightly over different model #'s/years sometimes original parts like the spring have to be reused to make em work. What are the model #'s on your ratchets?

Yeah, don't swap them out under warranty. The newer figure-8 plate ratchets are not the same.
I bought rebuild kits off of ebay for the 1/4" and 3/8" I have. The 1/2" # is off of my C-man list.
They are:
1/4" LLTD = 43427 or 44783
3/8" = 43437 or 44782
1/2" = 43447 or 44784

The first number for each rat is considered obsolete, but you may be able to find them.

Thanks for jumping in, jrod. U R the man!

Anyone have any luck getting these now?

I went to the Sears today and had them look for these #s
1/4" LLTD = 43427 or 44783
They both came up no longer available.

I just had one of those 3/8 ratchets warrantied in store and got the exact same ratchet back right down to the grease fitting, I was surprised.

Yeah, does anyone know the status of these repair kits? I need to find one for a 1/2" and a 3/8" and haven't had any luck with several stores so far.

They say made in USA on the instruction sheet. They're going to have separate chinese made kits for the new chinese ratchets. We got a printout about it lol.

I repair ratchets at Sears. Can get you the kits for those. They are still available.
How do I go about telling my sears how to get the new kits? I went on Sunday and the guy flat out told me that there is no way for them to order rebuild kits and they only get whatever sears sells them. He said if I brought him the part numbers then maybe he could call someone but they would probably have to send them a 50 kit box or something and he said he would not do that for one ratchet.

I'm not sure. It was my understanding that stores can't just order them anymore. If we are out of a particular kit, we change the on hand count to zero and then the system automatically orders em. Normally what happens is we rebuild a ratchet (they come with a barcode sticker) the cashier rings up an exchange on the register and scans the barcode of the replacement which takes one out of our inventory.

I don't know if certain stores don't get the entire selection of ratchet repair kits or what. I would imagine that isn't the case, because stores are judged on the percentage of refurbs given out vs. new ratchets. And it would be pretty tough for a store to keep their percentage up without all the available repair kits.

Thanks for all of your responses on this thread. After hitting the 2 stores I started to look some more online and the numbers show up on Parts Direct as discontinued. I didn't have the part numbers when I went, just the ratchet, not sure if they just didn't want to part with the kit since I wanted to rebuild myself, but they both said they were not available. I put a bid in on a couple of 43447 on ebay today, if I get those it will not be too much, if I don't and I can't get the kits from a local store I will definitely ask you (the 3/8 is a flex head that I told my stepdad I would rebuild for him if I could get the kit). Even if I win the ones on ebay I will try to get one from the store, then I will have a couple backups for the 1/2" drive if I ever need them.

Funny thing is the second store I went to the guy said he rebuilds them for his store and he brought out a kit for a round head ratchet (I recognized the "thumb wheel" from an old one I used to have) I should have just taken it, but I guess I am just too honest so I let him know that that one wouldn't work :)

Thanks again, I will PM you if I need to use you as my source, that sure was nice of you.

I found some at a Sears on the opposite side of town from me.
Guy working there was very helpful.
He let me sort through their rebuild kits until I found the correct one.

The previous store is where they told me the numbers were no longer valid and said they don't keep any kits in stock.

Sears brought back these kits like a year ago.

I've had several of these ratchets repaired since they brought the kits back.

Maybe so, but according to the store I went to and searching Sears on line they now say they are discontinued again.

Nope they're still available. They were recalled/unavailable shortly because the retaining clips they were sending all had a goofy bend in em and they wouldn't work with the face plates, but they're back out now.

1/4" 43427
3/8" 43437
1/2" 43447

I have an older 3/8 Craftsman ratchet needing a kit. There is no number on it, but on the handle is marked, Forged in USA and then a V. On the other side of the handle is Craftsman. It does not have the quick release, but has the oil hole fitting. Parts are hard to come by here in Canada as Sears is closing. Does anyone know the number of the kit needed or where I can get one? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
