Mid-Michigan Garage (Blue Collar Garage)
So I am finally getting to work on my garage. We closed on our house finally in mid-December and the garage has been used to hold a couple cars, my tools, and some misc. items.
This past week, now that we are (for the most part) done inside, I got to work on doing what I need to do in the garage.
Heres what I got to start with. A very nice 500sq ft garage thats half underground.
The bedrooms are above the garage, and the "beam" is actually the ducting for the furnace/AC - so removing that for extra height is not on my list. The garage is actually a really nice height.
The cables dangling is the previous homeowners way of routing cable TV to the bedrooms..which will for SURE be changing... Theres more than enough cable I don't know why they didn't try to hide it....
The shelving on the back wall was nice for when we moved in to give me storage for my garage items ---- but now that I am in there I need something usable. Having a 2x4 in your face makes for a ****** work bench. Never mind the fact they pieced it together using odds n ends they had lying around.
I've got to figure out a way to dress up the area where my breaker box is. Plain wood with a crappy cutout isn't going to fly in my opinion.
As far as insulation - the garage has held a VERY nice temp. It's been a constant 40 degrees even when its been -11 at night time here in mid-Michigan for a couple days.
Theres another shot of the original shelving. The pegboard is nice to have for my most commonly used tools, plus extension cords and other items.
Where the bike is in front of my wifes car is where my toolbox has been sitting once we got it to the house. As you can see on the right --- thats how the previous owner hung up rakes/shovels/brooms/etc etc etc... Gigantic *** nails that would double as rail road spikes based off their size!
That will be getting removed this spring.
And heres what I started building yesterday. My work bench.
I took down a wall in my house and had some nice 2x4s --- so with the purchase of some MDF and some nice 4x4s I have begun assembling my 8' long work bench.
The bottom level of the current wall mounted setup is leaving. (Most of) The upper level will stay as I do enjoy it for odds and ends that don't get used much. and the bench will be moving to underneath that storage for better use. The upper level will also double as a mounting location for some small accessory lighting to brighten up my bench when I am working at it.
The walls will be getting finished off as soon as the weather improves, with some drywall repair, tape, mud, and then a nice bright paint to brighten it up. The rail road spike hanging set up will be getting replaced with something more modular that I can modify for summer time and winter time duty.
Thankfully I have a shed so I can swap summer and winter gear for accessibility.
Also - Harbor Freight extension cord reel --- best purchase EVER from that store.
