(Moved this thread here because I accidentally posted it in the Gallery the first time).

I've been saving my pennies to buy a 4 post lift. I had my sights set on a BendPak HD-9 but am still several $K short in my budget...

A friend just hooked me up with a guy who is selling a 7000lb Backyard Buddy that is, apparently, practically new. I do not yet know if it is an extended length or height model.

The price is really, really good. Really good. So even though I had my heart set on the HD-9, if this lift turns out to be in as good of shape as advertised I will get the BYB.

The BYB website lists the dimensions of the lifts, but those dimensions do NOT indicate how long the ramps are (the things you drive up to get the car onto the rails). Would someone with a BYB please measure theirs and let me know.

A plus of the BYB is my garage cabinets are red/black steel and the BYB will match. A bonus.

FWIW, here's where the lift will go:

And before anyone asks: Yes, that's a pre-formed spot to put a counter sunk two-post lift. But I screwed up and didn't anticipate the cabinets and it's too far forward. Yes, I feel like a fool. Plus BendPak doesn't even make the asymmetric 2 post lift that would have fit there anymore (I built this garage in 2002).

RWHITE692 has a BYB lift, he could probally help you out.. You could always call the number on BYB's website and find out as well.

You garage looks awesome! Post up some more pics..

It does kinda **** that you have a trench that now you can't use and that the floor is painted already.. What do you plan on doing with it now?

Nice cabinets too, a red lift will look good with them (you can order a BendPak in red or black as well if you still end up going that way)..

Tig, those cabinets look really sharp. Really nice space you have there.

As to the trench, You could just fill it, and place a parking mat over it.

I will measure the ramps when I get home tonight.

Ket-Tek, that floor of yours looks awesome...

Remember - you buy a lift once. It holds cars and trucks over your head..... Your decision had better be basxd on more than price!

Great shop BTW....where's the build thread on the Toy?

Remember that the ramps are normally used only when you're driving on or off the lift, otherwise they come off and are stored elsewhere (so you aren't tripping over them or running your head into them.)

Yep, but I still want to know how far they protrude behind the lift.

This drawing on the BYB website shows the ramps are 4" high by 19" wide: http://www.backyardbuddy.com/automotive-lifts/backyard-buddy-7000-lb-4-post-lifts/lift-dimentions/ They don't show the length of the ramps for some reason, but they do have an overall length of the lift with the ramps installed of 15 feet, 3.5 inches. They also have a length of 13 feet, 5 inches from the front edge of the front leg to the rear edge of the rear leg; if you take the difference it's 22.5 inches. This isn't the exact length of the ramps since they're inset a little from the back legs, but it's probably safe to say they are about 24 inches long.

I have an old Stinger brand lift in my garage, and its ramps are about 24 inches long as well, so that is probably a safe number for estimating purposes.

Ok just an idea. Look at the layout of your new hoist then cut (YES I SAID CUT) the floor to the wall (a slot) and up to the hoist(both sides) and use it to route power air and whatever else you can think of. Cover it with polished panels (maybe Alum checker plate counter sunk so as to be flush with the top of the tile) and then never ever ever ever again admit you fffffogged up.... I KNEW THAT...

Great idea. However, note the 220v plug up above? That's where the lift power is supposed to go and I plan on routing the power up there. I also have an air line up there.

BTW, this is one of the reasons I'm going with a 4 post lift: See the attic access door up there? There's another one on the other side (only the center garage stall is vaulted). The 4 post lift will enable me to have easy access to those attic areas for MORE STORAGE (you can never have enough).

Bonus: I ran the air-line up there so that I could eventually move my air compressor up there...out of sight AND SOUND :)

My extended height and lenght byb lift ramps are 30 in long by 19 wide, i love this lift works well for me and i also got it for a sweet price, if you get it you might wanna build another rolling tray like i did as it works better with an air powered bottle jack or air bag jack, i used an i beam half and welded up the special rollers i made and works well as it gives you another 3.5 in depth from there stock roller jack tray. heres pics.

Tig, I have the standard 7K, standard length/height BYB lift, and just measured the ramps.

They are 24" long X 19" wide. My lift was manufactured in around 2003.

If I were you, I would call BYB and confirm the size that they are shipping with new lifts now. It may be that they have made the approach ramps a bit longer, to improve the approach for extra-low vehicles.

jeep is a buddys (youll have more of them when the lift is up) doing a wheel cycl and bleed for him. how much room do you have for the ramps? they do come off. and are pretty easy to make or shorten if you needed shorter.

I've got plenty of room. I just wanted to understand precisely what the dimensions were.

The seller has come back indicating it's an "Extended" 7000# Backyard Buddy. This mean's it's 14.5' without ramps (compared to 13.5' for the standard). It also has a "height under ramp" of 71" vs 63" which is a BIG deal to me. The HD-9XW (my dream lift) is 15.5' long with an 82" rise.

But for less than 1/3 the cost (!) this is going to be hard to pass up.

Hey Tig, did you vault your ceiling or have it built that way? I've got a Direct Lift pro-park 8S in my garage with 8' ceilings and am in the process of vaulting my ceiling - from the looks of your pic, my finished product should look just like yours. Any more pics of the ceiling?

Nice lift BTW!

edit: GAH! Nevermind... I just started looking through your other thread...
