Hey fellas, well I am a contractor here in Fayetteville AR and finally got to build myself a house and shop. I broke ground in 07 and moved in in January 08. I pretty much built the entire place my self on the side, It was the longest year of my life. My main help was from my longtime employee when we could steel a day or it was just me till dark every day. Dug the footings, poured em, blocked it, filled it, framed it calling buddies to help stand up the long back wall otherwise I threw up every wall, when I got the roof I cut every rafter and then ben and I threw them up. the tails were another story there was a lot. the only thing I didn't do on the house was the insulation, blown cellulose, drywall and roof. What a year. So that was the first year of my shop. A huge 40x30 monolithic pour on 30" footings with 5 sticks of rebar.

I'll post some pics and go from there.

When nothing else is going on in my life. My wife gives birth to my baby boy Cole. Who is the reason I finally get to build my house and thats my girl Rylee.

Now you get to see the start of the shop. This is one of the first gas station stores that was built in Fayetteville. It was on H 16 going east out of town or the first store coming from Huntsville. It was a grocery store supposedly robed by Bonnie and Clyde so the old man who owned the gas station across the street when we were taking it down. A shoe store, liquor store and sho nuff BBQ which was the last store that burned the roof off.

Everything I have is a work in progress. I have enough projects to last through retirement, and retirement is a long way off.
Unless that car in the first picture was new at the time of shoot, I would say you are doing fine.

Hi, Lincoln, AR here. Good to see a neighbor on the journal. I know very well the old store from the photo you posted. I remember when it was the Sho-Nuff BBQ.
Congratulations on your new home. I am amazed that "anybody" can build a new home these days, even a home builder. I guess the only way is to do most of it yourself, like your post says.
Keep us posted!!!

It looks like you are coming along. My garage took about 10 years. paid cash for concete, saved money for steel studs, framed and build the trusses and then it sat while i worked two jobs to get the funds for the roof and stucco. save and build, save and build. Keep the faith, it's a great day to start moving in.

Thanks fellas, on to some more pics.

The blocks prob didn't start going up till maybe 2009. these babies weigh about 75 lb. a piece and we had work going on so I called in my masons, I had already moved these block around the property 2 or 3 times. The blocks are stamped with Terre Haute which I would assume they came from Indiana. They are 20" long. So I had already pre planed the slab and it came out real close.

A double bond beam was poured above the steel in the doors, all corners were solid filled and door centers with more rebar and mesh than prob needed.

Still to date not a crack or any movement at all and its been colder here the last two years than our frost line are made for. Glad I went deeper.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I know how you feel about taking three years. This year will be my third year of working on my 30 x 50 stick built shed. My excuse though is that I am auto body guy, not a carpenter. :)

Mine will be 3 years this summer! 30 x 48 pole building, still need about 1/4 of the wiring finished and insulation and interior walls. It takes a while when you only have 2 days to work a1/2 day each on it.

Did the same on my house but contracted out more than you did, It still took a year and a half.

Keep plugging away you'll get there.
