last week i decided to take inventory of all the "known rotten" screwdrivers. the ones that seem to kill themselves over time.

i submitted my list through customer service from snap on and they took note of all i had and presented me with new product. i had somewhere around 11 black 4 sided snap on handles and they sent me a box of brand new green hard handles. i was pleased with the results so far. i am still waiting on the other half of the handles to come. they said something about being backordered.

overall, i am pleased to say the least. when i spoke on the phone they offered the instinct drivers and i said "oh no your not, i want the good stuff. send me those new racing type handles" and she said we will send the equivalent minus the racing logo.

Snap on is pretty awesome about phone or email warranty. A couple weeks ago I called with a bent 36" handle for my 3/4 inch drive ratchet and I have the old style that is a smaller diameter. well they sent me the handle for a new one that doesn't fit my old ratchet head when I called and told them they said they don't make the one I need anymore in 36" and sent me a brand new ratchet head and a new short handle for my old style head. So I ended up with a brand-new 3/4 inch drive ratchet and handle and they set up my old one for me too!!!

there are a couple other nick nacks i want to get replaced. i will consult with my dealer first and see if he will honor either of which.

one is a long flex head 3/8" ratchet with the bent handle for spark plugs. the head has alot of side to side movement and can't be tightened like the new style. and i have a pair of sdd6 and sdd8 screwdrivers that need handles. one was abused and the other purely broke from lots of use

I got what I needed but, it took them two weeks and a few phone calls to get back to me.

Thats good to hear as I have a couple of the older disintegrating handles that I still have in my box. I was worried about getting some instincts in return. Did you call ahead of time before you mailed your items to make sure to get the hard handles?

mrshaun, is it only the new hard handles that are in short supply or are the instinct hard handles in short supply too?

I've only got a couple of SO tools but I've gotta agree, their warranty program is top notch! I had an older hard handle phillips that the tip had broken off. I had picked it up at a garage sale years ago. I simply called CS and told the nice lady the problem. She asked for the part #, my address and said she'd put it in the mail! I asked if she wanted the old one back and she chuckled. 'No, you keep it'. Kinda leaves the whole warranty thing open to fraud if you ask me but, I'm happy. This was sitting at my front door a week later packaged up like a fine crystal vase!

thats basically what the story was over here. they don't want the old stuff back. i have a few other tools with the same old black handle on them but i don't plan on replacing them for a while.

You wanna sell those bad ones? :lol_hitti

probably not. i will keep my word and not abuse the system. some of the handles might make their way into new homemade type tools or even a shifter handle for my truck. maybe a homemade serpentine belt tool

Did they send you green randomly or did you ask specifically for green ones to replace your old black ones. I just took a look in my screwdriver drawer and I got 6 of the older contour handles that are prone to falling apart. They don't look to bad yet, but some are starting to get a little chalky
