New lid shocks for the HF 5-drawer shop cart?

Had a good friend replace two smaller boxes with a 36" Kobalt bottom box, thus I was gifted with a 3 to 4 year old HF lift-lid 5-drawer crinkle coat red service cart with one missing shock and one that is shot and will not hold the lid up.

Really need to replace at least one of the shocks and both if possible, but have never seen them as a separate item in a HF store. Am I missing something, or can these be sourced from a std. hardware store or auto parts store?

I'd hate to see them be priced at half the cost of a new box to replace.

TIA.

The black cart I just picked up from HF has the two bars riveted together, I'd much rather gas struts but the ones I sell at work for car trunks and hoods are far too strong, even using just one. Not sure where you'd find them for less than a fortune.

Yep. The $99 HF service carts use the elbow hinge, and the 5-dwrs the shocks.

My stop at AutoZone yesterday (home of the infamous GJ disputed Duralast ratchets--LOL) found hatch and hood shocks at $20+ a piece and far too powerful.

Thus why I asked here.

Go to your local HFT store and get the 800 number for parts.

I agree.

I ordered 4 sets of "replacement" drawer slides from a 13 drawer us general tool box, to use on a cheap Kobalt work bench.

They where only $6.88 each and they where shipped within a week. I'm sure they can get you the shocks.

The gas springs can also be picked up at Gebos, Tractor Supply co. and any stores similar to those.
