I am not entirely new here and have made a few posts and comments, but this is my first post about MY garage. I have lived in this house for 34 years (we moved here when I was 11) and had never really done anything with my space. I still had the partially completed wooden workbench that my Dad and I partially built in 1974! Since my wife and I bought the house from my Mother in 1988, I just plugged away in a dirty and disorganized garage, until now. I was finally fed up and decided to do something about it!

It is a humble little garage in comparison. Just 20’ x 24’, and I only have two walls in there! The other wall is the “laundry room/ pantry”.

I ripped out the workbench wall and cleared everything away. I then insulated the ceiling and wall and hung new drywall. I also ran several new duplex 20 amp outlets everywhere and split my lighting circuit into three separate circuits. I will eventually have twelve 4’ T-8 fixtures mounted on the finished ceiling.

It took me forever to go through everything and put it away where it belongs. I used a suggestion that I read on this board and if I hadn’t used it in a year, I got rid of it. Not my tools of course, but all of the junk that a guy with several hobbies can collect. I’m into auto mechanics, electronics, metal machining and a little bit of woodworking.

After everything was sifted through, I was finally able to install my new cabinets and get everything that was left off of the floor and behind closed doors.

I absolutely love the clean look and the fact that I can now find my tools and have space to work on projects. Now that my workbench wall is organized and the center of the garage is cleared, I can continue my drywall expedition across the remainder of the garage, hang the rest of the lights, and get to work!

I have learned so much from the hundreds of posts that I have read on this board. I wish that I could thank individuals personally for sharing their knowledge and experiences. Joining and viewing everyone else’s garages is what helped to inspire me to do something myself.

Respectfully,

Guy

That looks great, what brand of cabinets did you use?

And whats the bundle of wires for coming out of the ceiling in that last pic?

Thanks for the kind words.

That bundle of wires coming out of the ceiling junction box is for the single outlets that you see around the ceiling. I just haven't connected them and stuffed them in the box yet. They are controlled by the lone switch. I don't really know yet what I'll do with them, but the outlets are placed all around the garage and in a perfect position to hang car signs, beer signs, or even additional lighting. I got a little crazy when I was doing my wiring. I figured "what the heck, I may as well do it now".

Down Under Bloke, This is in fact my garage. I thought that I made that clear in my original post. I'm guessing you didn't read it. That's ok. I'm just very proud of what I have done to a garage that I've lived with for 34 years. Also, the fact that it was people on this board that helped to motivate me to undertake this remodel and who gave me many great ideas. I do sell these cabinets (now), but I am not advertising and I apologize if anyone thought that I was. My signature only has my email address and nothing more. I know what the rules are here and have been very cautious about adhering to them. If you can decipher my user name, then you'll understand that I live by the rules. Literally.

Thank you again,

Guy

No worries. You weren't pimping your stuff like some people who come on here and basically advertise with their first post. Others here are "in the industry" as well. Looks like a good start to things!

Looks Good  ! Thanks for sharing with us. Cabinets are on my list of 'things to do' in my garage also (for storage and to clean up some of the stuff that I don't use every day).
