OK, so after some thoughts and ideas, I have finally had enough. I am reclaiming, or I guess claiming my garage. Here it is from the 2 Car Garage Gallery.

Then I saw these pictures a couple of posts later and I had an idea.

I was going to do this very same thing. Bought the wood, measured everything out and then.....

I go up into the attic only to discover the trusses didn't run in the right direction to allow me to build the overhead storage areas like that. But! I looked over the open garage door and decided I could use the truss run there to build a suspended shelf area. There's nearly 3 feet of open unused area above the garage door. It's perfect for all those Holiday decorations and other light weight containers I have stacked and strewn all over the garage. SO I took the wood, added some metal hangers to them and built this.

I used 4inch screws to mount the brackets through the ceiling and into the trusses the used 2x4 and 2x6 center to hold the frame. Then covered with MDS board rough side up. I'll paint it white to blend in with the rest of the garage and start emptying out my garage this week.

Next project:

Workbenches.

I have ceiling height like that but I had raised tracks put in for the garage door so now I have more room when the door is open which I would rather have than storage above the door .

That is a good use of space though :D.

Thanks

Yeah, when we first bought the house my plan was to get the door raised but after finding out how many $1000's it would cost to basically re-engineer the whole thing, I decided my Truck can stay outside. You can see it in 1 shot. It's a standard, factory height Ram 4x4 but it won't fit under a standard garage door. No lift, bigger tires or anything. I first figured I'd be able to get the door raised by 1 extra panel so it'd have plenty of clearance. The cheapest estimate I got was $5500.

So, now I have storage for all the other clutter I don't put in the attic.

I had that issue with my truck as well, garage door at normal resting height my truck would fit inside, however the bottom of the door would be running across the top of my truck. However I have a old manual lifting door, so all I have to do is jam a piece of 2x4 up under the door on one side if bringing my truck inside, it gives me a couple extra inches.

That is one of the reasons for when I build a new garage I'm going with an extra 2' of ceiling height and a bigger garage door.

Yes, Exactly. I already have plans for my garage I'll build in a few years after my son grows up and I don't need the whole side yard anymore. It'll be large enough to fit a full size MotorHome in. I doubt I'd ever own one but if I did, it'll fit. That will give me plenty of room to do whatever, whenever I wanted to including full size lift. I figure I have another 10 years or so to save up and plan that build. He's 7 now.

Finished and loaded. For the most part. I still have room for my other things that I'll use from time to time like my coolers and such. I did change it a bit by removing 1 panel on the wall side for easier access. I can add it back later if I change my mind.
