1 Switch, 2 Lights - Replace 1 Light with Ceiling Fan?

To be clear, I don't know what I don't know about lighting and electrical, but this one seemed a little too straightforward not to attempt to DIY.

I have 2 single bulb fixtures in my garage that are controlled by 1 switch. I'd like to replace 1 of the lights with a ceiling fan. The single bulb fixture closest to the switch has 2 black wires and 2 white wires screwed in. The fixture furthest from the switch has a single black wire and a single white wire connected. I don't see any green/bare/ground wires in the ceiling.

I installed a ceiling fan (no light kit) into the ceiling box furthest away from the switch. The fan turns on/off via the switch; however, now the light closest to switch isn't working.

I assume the garage isn't wired properly to permit operation of both the fan and the single light. Can anyone provide guidance?

Did you try putting a new light bulb in it?

You prob just have a bad connection in the splice box, check the wires in the fan box and check wires in the light. If the two wires are in the fan then you don't need to check the fan box since it's the end of the line and working. And yes check the bulb and make sure it's screwed in all the way too

Edit,just saw fan is at end of line, so check the fixture light connections

If the fan j box is fed from the light j box then there must be a bad connection on the light.

If you just removed the 2nd light fixture and installed the fan it doesn't make sense that the light would not work. Always trace your steps and revisit everything you did.

Seems straightforward. Either the bulb is blown or when you removed light to look at wires, one conductor of the fixture became disconnected. Did you support the fan independently of the outlet box? If not you should, assuming it isn't a fan rated box.

Thanks to everyone that responded. Turns out that the ceramic/plastic bit that screws into the fixture was not screwed in well; so the bulb's cap was not making good contact with the socket. Doh!
