Hi, long time reader first time poster I would like to install a 4 post lift. My problem is I only have a 10ft high ceiling. Bottom car is 53" tall top car is 47". How thick (in general) is the lift? My garage door is about 18" off the ceiling when opened. What do you think?
Thanks
Rick

I think your best bet is to jump on line and visit the manufacturers websites. From there you can peruse the drawings and see what dimensions you will be working with, depending on the lift(s) you want.

Fifteen years ago I had a 4-post lift in a 10’ 0” high bay. I put a 1½” steel spacer under each post making 50” clearance under the ramps so that my corvette would fit below a 1947 Buick Roadmaster. The roof of the Roadmaster actually had to touch the ceiling in order to get the lift off the locking tabs.

Working under the lift was a little troublesome, as I had to duck under the ramps. Once under the car I could stand up though. Overall it was far better than working off a creeper. Plus I made room for another car on the garage.

One of our members here has a 4 post in a garage with a shade under 10' (9'9" IIRC). He gets 2 Darts in, one up, one down. I measured them, and they were about 54" high each. It's tight, but it can be done.

I have my 4-post in 8' 10" but my cars have fold-down windshields.

I can put my wifes SUV (Hundai Santa Fe) and my Truck 2000 GMC on the lift and get the lift rails about 3ft. off the ground, that makes the bottom of the car about 4ft. and then I have a old office chair that I sit in and roll around under the cars while working, quite comfortable.

Mikeyr and 930 love the cars. I'm going to go for it. I will extent my door rail as close to the ceiling as possible. From what I see it will work. LOVE THIS SITE
Thanks to everyone
Rick
P.S. I'm doing the tile (VCT) floor this weekend. Will post before/after pics.
