12/3 MC: Not use a conductor?

Hello,

I'm running a new circuit for an outlet and have a good length 12/3 MC leftover. Per code, can I tape off the unused conductor in the j-box(es)?

If you have sufficient volume in the box for the extra conductor, I don't see an issue. If it were me, I'd connect it to ground, so anyone who looks knows that it's not live immediately.

yeah you can tape it off but no requirement to do so

I have done it for "future use", usually marrette both ends (orange small ones). Respect box fill as well.
