Hello my background is residential construction & I’m pretty familiar with recessed cans & as of late LED disc lights. However currently I’m building a barn for some clients & I ran across 16” disc lights. I’m actually kind of excited about these for the barn because I feel we can light up a large open space without having multiple rows of smaller disc lights. I was wondering if anyone had any exp with these & any idea what kind of sq footage they might light. The ceilings are 11’.

I have one each of these in a couple of walk-in closets, in a laundry room and multiple ones of these in a large rec room that already has skylights and windows. They work fine in the closets and laundry rooms but not so much in the much larger rec room. You will need to put a lot of these, very close together, in a shop setting.

Maybe I should have been a bit more descriptive this is really a barn with a a 2 BR guest house on the top floor. The lower part “barn” is busted up with horse stalls, tack room & a dedicated shop has its on walls. whats left is a large galley running down middle. it will be somewhat fancy With a lot of stained woodwork & some wall decorative fixtures. I’m kind of digging these because they are sleek & r less of a dust catcher.
We used to use recessed cans exclusively but now we use what i call disc. No can just a thin Led light that ***** to the ceiling . Not flush though maybe protrudes 3/8” .

Here are the ones I’m looking at . This barn has a lot of stained wood work tongue & groove and I’m shooting for a streamlined look, less dust catcher fixture. 4 bulb fluorescents hanging fro a chyain would be a little out of place for this project.

Actually, AFX is a really good manufacturer. Still, at just 2500 lumens, this "disc" is only slightly brighter than 1 LED tube. I'm not sure now big your area is, but you might need more of these than you think. They make the same thing in a 24" version that delivers 3375 lumens @40w. Not the most efficient, but considering it's only 1" thick, that's not so bad. They dont offer a chart that shows the beam angle, so I cant tell you how much area it covers. But they do have .ies files on their website, so if you can find someone to do a layout for you, the info is available. Maybe call them and ask them if they can do one.
