1970's Air Compressor

I am new to this forum and joined to find out an accurate price on my late Father's Air compressor. He used to paint cars in the late 70's and has used this air compressor up until his death in 2013. I still use it from time to time to fill low tires. The problem is, I have no idea how to maintain it, and do not want to run it into the ground because of this. I just need a small one to handle my needs. I have a bunch on family and neighbors hounding me into selling all my Dad's things to them, knowing I have no idea what to ask for them. I feel the offers they are making me are all too low. I have some pretty sneaky family members that I have given things to only to see that they sell them online right after I give it to them. I will have more items to ask about in the future since this 2 car garage is chock full of his stuff he accumulated over the years. He was a jack of all trades and there are things from vintage tire changers, from Texaco where he worked in the 60's to welding equipment from when he worked at Electric Boat in Groton CT. I took pictures of all the tags on the air compressor, hoping someone here can help me out with how much it's actually worth, though I can't send them as of yet, as it seems I need some sort of security token. It has a Baldor Industrial motor Cat. No. L1508, Spec. 37D11-131, Frame 215, ser. F780, H.P. 5, vOLTS 208-230, AMPS 28.5, RPM 1725, HZ 60, PH 1 CLASS B, SER. Sounds like the motor alone should be worth ~$200 at least if it's in good shape. The rest of it really needs pictures to help with assessing value.

Air compressors are just one of the things Wayne used to mfg. Great machines. Parts are still available. 5 hp single phase is probably the most desired size of compressor.

Baldor is probably the most desirable motor brand.

Drain the water from the bottom of air tank. ( You can skip this part: Change the oil annually with specialist air compressor oil. Change air intake filters annually.)

Prepare a back story , literary aside, and a provenance for items. Some folks are nostalgic because grandad owned the same brand tool or operated the same franchise. Others are military buffs.

Three well written short sentences can up your item's value. Not all transactions are singles. A 3 X 5 word processor merged note included into the freight package can tip a buyer over into repeat purchases. He may share info with his collector friends. A Colt factory letter, for example, can up a pistols closing price.

Most the above isn't of interest.

Baldor is a large industrial motor mfg. Globe is enormous industrial tank mfg. Wayne is a large industrial mfg who no longer makes air compressors.


The important part is 5 actual horsepower, single phase, slow rpm, it is working, and parts are still available. It should be two stage with two cylinders. (Pictures help.)
