200 Amp Meter Socket and Disconnect Breaker

I upgraded my electrical service, and had to remove the existing meter socket and disconnect that is located under the meter socket. It is a one piece unit by Milbank. I installed it in 1983, but under the current CT electrical code, the meter socket now has to have a bypass switch in it, so if the electric company needs to change the meter, they will not disturb the electrical service inside the home. Other than that, I could have continued to use it. I would like $50 for it, or a reasonable offer, plus shipping. It weighs about 30 pounds is my guess. I can get pictures of it if there is any interest.

Sounds like a pretty hokey code requirement to me. Adding a bypass switch must cost quite a bit in the big scheme of things (to the manufacturer of the meter sockets) and given that a meter gets changed once or twice in a lifetime, the switch has limited usefulness.

Because of the low production of this meter socket, it was very pricey at the time. I don't know if they have come down in price in the last few years. I made the change over in 2003 when the regulation first came about. I was lucky in the sense, that I was in a Home Depot in NJ buying a exterior door that wasn't available in CT Home Depots, when I found the meter socket there. It was a return from a customer that purchased it at another HD store, but it wasn't carried by this store. I asked for a price, and the department manager had no idea of what to charge, since he had never seen anything like it before. I offer $25 and he accepted. Saved myself about $100!!!!!!
I have been keeping the old one in the garage hoping that I will find someone that can use it. Now, I am tired of seeing it in there, and it must leave........ one way or the other... Junk...

Just curious, Junkman...is the disconnect a double-throw? i.e., could it be used as a transfer switch?
