Yesterday I got half the roof tin done, then it snowed over night. I pulled the rest of the tarps this morning. What a whack of snow up there! Got it all finished by 5:00 What a crappy job when its cold as hell out and you have snowy wet feet. ...........a couple more photos from this morning ..

Slow process between work and all but I manged to get the side and rear garage windows installed with the help of my buddy John. Not to bad for $640 bucks. both are brand new jeldwen windows.

I figured it was time to start assembling some tools I've had in storage. The new work shop will be a blessing for organization. I got **** stored everywhere, from my sheds, to the attic, to a cargo van I got parked out front. Dug some boxes out of the shed this morning, I picked up this shop press online for $200, its a 20ton, I assembled it all together, looks to be ok. I have a used band saw, that is iching to see sunlight too.

Thought it was time for a update in progress. Its been around a year since I started my build and the shop is currently being stuccoed and just got scratch coated yesterday. I installed some of the soffit but still have quite a bit to go, I installed the overhead 10'x9' doors with liftmaster wall mount openers. Everything gets in the way of working on the shop so it looks like it will be awhile before it gets finished.

Update on my 72' bronco. Shes running good and waiting to be painted. I've had her out quite a few times this summer. Can't wait to bolt on the 2.5" cowl hood and get her all painted up in a nice charcoal grey. A picture from today after giving her a wash.

Final stucco coat all done, outside plugs installed, attic vents installed, soffit and facia all done. Finally! its looking complete from the outside.

Now that the shop is all closed in and done on the outside, time for some inside work. The only thing standing in my way is my 2003 powerstroke. I had a head gasket failure and need to put it back together and drop the cab back on. My heads have been redone, all my parts are here, just need to find time to throw her together.

My home made lift I made for this undertaking. 2 chain hoists some I-beam and bingo! It all worked slick, came up and off easy.

my 1983 mustang drag car was my high school car that I've owned now for 18 years, 393 stroked 351windsor, c4 auto, transbrake, manual valvebody, 4500 stall, 8.8" rearend with 4.30 gears, last time I had it at the track my best was a 10.5 @ 128mph.

Front end swap and a 5-lug swap - nice!

Nice shop build as well! Don't see a whole lot of stucco on GJ.

Here's a couple garage slabs I've thrown down recently. Being a concrete contractor and a car guy, I love laying down garage slabs knowing there will be a cool shop built on them housing toys! I tell all my garage clients about Garage journal. The shiny power troweled slab has a 28'x32'x12' garage already built on it with a hoist and some cool cabinets. The other slab now holds a 32'x26'x10' structure filled with a wicked wakeboard boat, pool table and 2 sweet Harleys.

I was out in the shop today working on the 6.0L putting her back together and I realized I didn't have any shots of my shop in its current state inside. Heres a few inside before I get to insulating and drywalling.

A few pics of the powerstroke progress...I got the oil cooler housing all cleaned up with new gaskets and new oil cooler/filter. New screen for the oil resivor, the old screen was ripped and plugged and must of been letting lots of **** threw to the oil pump. Drained the antifreeze from the block. Installed the hpop cover and the arp studs and head gaskets installed ready for the heads.

You're making progress Jim, not only on the garage but also your 6.0. I've seen people use lifts to raise the body but never seen a cab taken completely off and away from the truck. Looks like you're doing it right, ARP studs, killed atleast 5 Ben Franklins with that purchase.

Finally got the 6.0L motor all back together. The motor/chassis is ready for the cab and I'm ready to have my garage back. My garage is going to look empty with this 22' beast out of there.

Even the boy was tinkering with the motor on his truck tonight. The Nitro is just old I told him, but he doesn't think so....

I finally completed the re-assembly of the engine and all its components. Time for a good bath and drop the cab back on. Today I drug the beast outside with the bobcat and gave her a good scrubbing.

Nitro is so tempermental, constantly tuning and tinkering... Nitro is a pain in the ***, I had one but blew it up, so I picked up a 30cc 2-stroke R/C Truck but the problem was everytime I drove it, sounded like I was cutting the forest down. I have an electric Traxxas now, way better than gas or nitro (even though I am 100% in favor of anything gas powered)....

Nice Bronco, Mustang and Shop! It all looks great.

The shop is emptied out for the first time in awhile, swept the floor, oh wait......................... Time to fill the shop back up again. Once this 6.0L project is done time to insulate, epoxy floors, build shelves and a shop bench.

I trenched my power and gas to the shop today. Two separate trenches, one is for the natural gas and the other is shared by the power and 1 1/2" conduit for feeding other wires threw at a later date. I also mounted and powered up my 100 amp panel.

I've been keeping track of how much this shop is costing me. Just passed the $28k mark after purchasing the electrical items.

Next up, wiring plugs for my compressor, welder, recepticles and switches, then insulating, poly, drywall.

Oh boy! $31-32k total maybe.

Just you mentioning dirt biking makes me miss it even more. I would love to be out dirt biking but its a little to chilly and the snow doesn't help.

I've been out trying to get more and more finished on the shop, yesterday I hung two lights on the front of the shop and wired them to a 24hr timer so I have my yard lit when I want. Mounted it on the wall by one of the overhead doors.

I also hung and installed my 150000btu lennox furnace. I hung it by myself, I used a chain hoist to get it from the floor up in the air, then I set it on my drywall lift and cranked it up into place. I wired the shut off switch and digital thermostat to the furnace and powered it all up.

I also wired my exhaust fan to a switch that will be right above the shop bench that will be soon built. I also wired a 20A receptacle right in line with where my 14" Makita chop saw will be located in my bench.

So I was out in my yard looking for my boat cover today and I found some steel drawers I forgot I even had. I had a work truck last summer that had a welding deck on it, I removed all the drawers and threw them out behind the RV and totally forgot about them. I sold the truck last fall and never gave them to the new owner..... woops.....

So, a light bulb popped into my head this morning when I rediscovered them. my idea is to build racks for them and incorporate them into my welding bench and my 4x6 rolling welding table. They are good thick and solid metal drawers, a little cleaning and paint will fix e'm right up.

I also had another idea this morning when I was out in the shop cleaning. I had this large rack I made back in spring to hold my concrete stamp mats, it worked great all summer, you could access any set as you wanted them without digging threw a whole dirty heavy pile.

The downside is the rack I built is huge and takes quite a bit of space up in the shop. So I unloaded the rack into my cargo van and had a coffee and brain stormed some ideas how to chop it up and use the metal.

After a coffee or two I came up with this idea............ First I cut it in half which I then ended up with two tables. Then I cut the top half in two again and narrowed it a bit ending up with two bench looking pieces.

The bottom half that is on wheels will be a good start for my future rolling welding table, but at 5'x5' in size, its a little big, so I'm going to narrow it to
40"x60" and install a 4'x6' sheet of 1/2" on top. That way I'll have a decent clamping edge all the way around.

The two smaller bench looking pieces fit pretty good and were almost perfect in size. More to come.................

With the two separate benches it might work out just like I planned. I have my 20a plug in the wall right where my saw will sit. If I fab up a lower shelf where my saw will sit and bridge the two benches together it should work great. I think I will even add 4 or 5 drawers right under the saw shelf too.

In the photos I just laid things in place as a mock up. Obviously i'll fab up some metal brackets to attach the benches to the wall and complete the rear edges of the shelfs. also a few more cross members to get the top nice and solid.

I have lots of drawers, I'm even going to incorporate 3 or 4 into my rolling bench. Fab up some slides and mount them beneath the top.

I got some more work done in the shop again tonight. Air compressor got moved with the bobcat from my other garage. 220 plug wired in and powered up. Welder hauled over and ready to fab. I also moved the drill press over where I want it. Spent a lot of time just organizing, I'm pretty proud of my cleaning, I have quite a bit of space to work and layout my new 12' bench. Unfortunately there is not much room on my temporary rolling table, its piled high already! I also smashed the **** out of my bandsaw stand and threw it up on the table. The stand was 24" high. Absolutely useless! I cut some pieces with my band saw and it seems to work fine on the table...

I also did a lot of measuring, cutting and head scratching. No welding yet, just in the design and layout............More to come...........

You don't need a heater much in Victoria do you? my heating friend says that heater is overkill for my 1200sq/ft shop and is rated for 2500sq/ft. I'm good with that, bigger is better! My front shop has a 45000btu and according to his chart it should have a 32000. But it runs and runs and it never gets to a comfortable temp in there.

On a better note, I got that furnace for $400, its a year old and was salvaged from the local 911 center when it was being torn down.

Right place, at the right time.
