I was wondering if any one had installed a metal roll up door onto their 4 post lift?
I figure it would take two roll up doors, one mounted in front and one in back. They would travel on the inside rail used to hold other accessories like dip pans or jacks.
Does anyone know how much weight these types of doors can support when layd out flat and supported on each side?
I looked up the RollBac tonneau cover and they advertise the strongest one on the market able to support approx 400#.
I figure this would be strong enough to support most storage needs.

Right now I have to remove the two plywood fabricated pieces every time I need to work on a vehicle. I know it's not that big of deal but reduce space and make things easier and too also make something seems to be right up my ally.

I know I've seen vehicles supported on two roll jacks completely that ride of the inside rail. If it can support a 2Ton vehicle with no problems, I doubt you will find a tonneau cover that will support enough for it to be an issue.

I don't believe that would work. just because it CAN support that much weight doesn't mean it can do it for long periods of time... kinda like a weight lifter.

Thanks for the feed back.
Most of the vehicles use the two rails that are designed to support that kind of weight.
the roll up door idea would simply be supporting smaller storage items or even a place to put some tools or drip pans when working underneeth the vehicle, and then move it to reach your needs or easily rolled up out of your way when finished.

Just fashion a sliding/rolling tray out of steel, aluminum, or plywood. I see no reason to make it much more complicated

I have a 15" wide x 48" long steel shelf from a store shelving unit that I use to hold my tools while working under the car. It will support anything that I can put on it without bending, and when I am done with it, I can lean it against a wall until the next time I need it. It is also easy to clean with a rag if it gets greasy. Even use it for holding the drain pan for oil or anti freeze. Light enough, sturdy enough, and cheap enough = the perfect tool!!!

I take it no one has done this yet?
I understand the tray idea and I have one I made to do just those things, but when I am storing my vehicle on the lift I have extra room for other items as well that I place on there.
I fabed up a platform out of plywood that acts just like the metal platforms the lift companies sell. But to move those metal ones can take two people and wall to store them against as well as the platforms made of wood.
This is something that would simply stay on the lift and roll out when needed or retracted when not.

catmech,

Thanks. There we go. Not quite a roll up design but on the right track.
There is not a whole lot of info on that product, but it does bring back memory of a pit that I saw that did have a rollup up tray. I am not sure if it retracted off to the edge or rolled up into a box.
I do agree with you on heavy loads, I never had the idea to use this for that purpose.
I like the rolling drain pan. It looks fairly easy to make, and could stay in place under the roll awa tray for storage if done right.
