Cool old shop ,got any pictures of when it was hopping, pumping gas and kicking ***? Be nice to do sprayfoam rubber roof coating bUT not enuf pitch looks like. Nice work on the doors, lots of people are scared of doors?

Here ya go. Taken in early 1962. Sort of cool old picture that I found on the Alabama department of archives and history.
Notice the heavy wooden doors we had back then.
I have updated all four to commercial metal doors with chains to open and close. No windows now in doors. Times have changed.
I still have lots of work but I am getting there slow.
Last picture was taken before I started this long clean up project.
3rd picture of where we used to repair chainsaws. Now it is my resting area.
Last picture I took in 2014. Many things moved since then.

Looking good !
I lied. I will be age 72 this year and still able to go on the roof. Been up there today repairing one leak.Update on skylights. They are holding up great but if I had to do it over I would have replaced the old ones with metal. These skylights I bought are just not as heavy duty as the old ones but they will stay .
I am not even going to bother with the other skylights. I am now age 70 and don't plan on ever going that high againWe patched the old fiberglass ones and so far no leaks
I still work in the shop on occasion but as I age it is much harder to stay on the concrete very long. My wife and I have been cleaning out things in the old shop to make room to store more junk lol
I have been thinking of replacing the metal skin on the front of the building. The weather here has cooled and it would be a good time to attempt this project. There is a metal shop across the road so no problem other than I need a long trailer to haul. Their metal is not as thick as original but it will have to do.

I have been lucky in my life as I am still in great health. I also take very good care of myself. I just keep on working . I take one day at a time and enjoy each day to the fullest. More updates soon.

Taking inflammation into account that 11,800 would be almost 100,000 today.
Great old building, and yes you couldn't touch a building for that price now.

I will add that at my age of 70.5 I still do a lot of things that maybe I shouldn't but I do because I can..I run my 175 Kaw dirt bike around the woods for example..But I do have a tv in my shop and a recliner in front of it!!

I started from the top and didn’t realize until I saw my first post. #34.... that this once again was a post that started in Feb of ‘14! Oh well....glad your still with us threeputt and you are still making progress. 70 1/2 yo myself and I’m also slowing down but I can stilll do it!

Having spent most of the last four decades in the metal building business, I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Butler really were the pioneers in the pre-engineered metal building business, the largest in the world until the Harvard Whiz Kids took over and ran it into the ground.
Now owned by an Australian company, along with Varco Pruden; the combined entity is a mere shell of Butler in it's heyday.

I am still here even though parts of my shop are not , at least for now.
Two skylights were also blown out along with one door. One of the other side took a beating. At least 100 mph winds. Add that with 8 inches of rain and I got what is called a mess.
Removed the old skylights yesterday and replaced with plain metal. Door is going up tomorrow. My billfold is much thinner but other than that all is good. Still going and hope to for a long time yet .
Last picture is a few feet from the shop . Couldn't find the road Sunday AM. Golf ball Hail did a job on all parts of building but it is still standing. Nothing even close to this weather ever here in the 59 years since it was built. All my hard work replacing this door with panels two years ago gone down the drain . It almost ruined another but for now I will still use it. I also rebuilt that one in 2018 replacing panels and all hardware. I sure am glad I was not there at the time this thing hit.

Here in California, which is it's own separate reality, the cost of Workers Compensation Insurance for a Roofer through the State Fund was, at the last time I checked, 150% of their wages.
That being said, if a roofer were to be paid $30 per hour, the insurance cost is $45 per hour. I am older now and hopefully a little smarter; there is no way I am going to risk my old bones climbing on a roof.

This building has stood now for 59 years. Here is a picture that was taken by my brother in 1967. Wish I had that 1948 Ford Coupe
Also included is a picture I took today almost from the same location as 53 years ago.
The storm took care of many of the trees last month but a few more spared as seen in last picture. I just like old pictures and thought I would share. Cheers

Nine months later and things are much better. Lots of hard work but I have not give up.
Another bump in the road from Hurricane Zeta that came though in October with more high winds but the building still stands. I had to go back on the roof which I said I wouldn't things are good now .
I had to cut the 25 year old pine tree in back. Hail damage in April plus Hurricane winds in October done it in.
I cut it down and then cut it up where I could move it. I would have burned it where it was but my cable line was too close, plus a little too close to the county road.
It was 34 inches at the bottom . I burned it in my homemade burn pit. No more trees for me. Whew, that was a task. Won't even say how long it took but I got it done finally on my own.
I felt bad for the birds so I got them a feeder to help for now and will add a few bird houses soon. A neighbor put the bird feeder on the street where I live for the city to pick up and I decided I would bring it back to form.
Here are some pictures I took yesterday and a screen shot of the back this am. The one showing pine tree was from a few years ago so it was much larger when I removed it.
