I am thinking of starting a home-based business and would need some type of accounting software for invoicing, etc. What are the thoughts out there?

Are you doing your own taxes? If not, you'll want your CPA to weigh in on this a bit, otherwise initial CPA onboard can be expensive.
Good invoicing software may or may not be the same thing as good accounting (tax) software.

Found out that deal won't work out per HR. City won't hire you as a contractor within twelve months of leaving employment. I retire on the 12th. Might stay on for a bit a couple days a week until they hire my replacement. Takes at least 3 months with the civil service process. They finally decided the public works crews might need equipment fixed in a somewhat timely fashion. Really, no ****?! Kind of the busy season.

I just went with something simple that lets me make clean invoices, track payments, and sort expenses fast
Picking one that you can learn in an afternoon helped a ton

Agree with above. I started my own business in 2005 and bought QuickBooks Pro. I probably don't use 5% if it's capability but it has been fantastic and 2 different accounting firms doing my taxes say all good. The problem is of course I bought it and now you can only subscribe.
Quickbooks is pretty small business standard, but it has a learning curve and even with it's modern capacity, you'll want to make sure you stay on top of the "category" for expenses... Not sure how it is on invoicing though. It can make a big difference in the bills from your CPA.

Might look if it integrates directly with "great" invoicing software.

Are you sure your not thinking of Quicken? That's personal accounting. QuickBooks Pro is used by large businesses. Many reviews refer to it as the gold standard.

QuickBooks (QBO), dunno about Pro. That's what the spouse uses anyway with "our" (family, eg fee CPA). I'm a dumb-*** W-2 employee so my taxes are easy.

Took a look, QuickBooks Pro is not a thing anymore. It's now QuickBooks Online (QBO), which is pay per year... Kinda makes sense with the ever-changing world of accounting. North of the spouse's income, they use Netsuite.... But I'm speaking to end-of-year tax, not necessarily to invoicing.

Again, invoice and accounting might be two different things. But without paid invoices, you don't have to worry about accounting!
