Air Compressor Oil Baffle

I have a little 20 gal air compressor that’s served me well for my uses, however over the years it developed a leak on the commutator oil seal. I took it all apart to replace the seal there which is fairly easy.

However, in the process of that, I had to open the side of the head and there is this rubber oil baffle as some call it and I unfortunately caused a pin hole in it (circled).

My question is, what does this baffle serve? And now the fact I caused a hole in it, I’ve found a replacement on Amazon for $10, however the lower openings (square) on all the replacement have 2 versus 1. So I’m not entire sure what this may affect.

is that the crankcase end with an oil fill/breather on the outside?
if so I don't think it will matter. even if it's not... with holes in it from manufacture, it probably won't matter

basically that black baffle separates these two halves.

The one I caused you mean? The one I put a square around that comes part of the baffle, I didn’t cause that. The one I caused is the one that’s circled.

I just don’t understand what this baffled even serves?

you're fine with the small hole you punched . I understand the other one is from factory.
It serves to help keep the oil from splashing and hitting the breather ( the black peg sticking out ) and causing it to weep out oil

Since it looks like it also serves as a gasket, I'd replace it for ten bucks.

Thanks guys! I’ll just replace the baffle for the price.

So as I’m putting this back together, I never took a photo of the eccentric weight and how it sits in relation to the piston once mounted. Would anyone now if there is a difference? Because in this photo the piston is basically full compression, and counter weight at bottom.. does it even matter?
