I have a handful, but the one I always grab is an stubby 3/8. It's a 1/4" unit with a 3/8" anvil. Considerably higher RPMS than the full size 3/8 ratchets of the time (30 years ago). I always broke stuff lose before I hit the trigger so I didn't smash my hand....so I never needed much torque, but I preferred the high speed. Great on timing cover bolts, trans/oil pan bolts, etc. Basically, anything with a 10mm head on it got the stubby

I just bought one of these from Zoro with a 20% off coupon:

I will probably only use it a few times a year when I work on my truck but it's worth it for those projects.

Neither. I don't use cordless ratchets (yet) but I use my 1/4 air ratchet quit a bit.

My 3/8 drive air ratchet hasn't been touched in probably a decade thanks to 3/8 impacts. I can't see listening to all that noise when an impact will zip it out much quicker. I really can't imagine anybody using a 1/2 air ratchet when you can get stubby impacts.

As for ratchets, I use an IR103A that's been excellent. The noise is a little annoying, so I get the appeal of cordless, but the compact size of the air ratchet is tough to beat. My vote is an Ingersoll Rand. You can get a nearly new 103A on eBay for like $40 which is what I would do if I were you.

The only air ratchet I'd consider is of the impacting type like the 1128 Astro, the Harbor Freight or the SPAir. The wrist busting capability, the noise and the air hose precludes me using any conventional air ratchet and I have several of them.

I just got one new in open box from eBay for $27 shipped. Felt like it was a bargain, and I'm please with it in it's first use. I was a little surprised how loud it is though. Chalk that up my first time owning an air ratchet...
That noise is the exact reason why I try to use air as little as possible. Ratchets are probably the worst offenders. Hateful things.
