@Ryan,

I just got a very weird Alert indicating that @msharley had quoted me in a thread that I am not participating in.

Here's a screenshot of the Alert, cueing the name of the thread, as Alerts do, and his post that clicking on the link in the Alert takes me to. I am clearly not quoted, and I have no posts in that thread. A 'wire' or two is crossed somewhere.

HAHA! The Un-Midas Touch.
And....Micro blame Soft "updated" my confuzer......

I can do all kinds of things...I do not intend...with ease! (they made it so I CAN NOT get pics from camera to confuzer also have over 200 vids from THE PIN SHOOT, formerly SECOND CHANCE that I can not load onto YouTube...seems the "updates" are not compatible with YouTube??)

Life is complicated...

Headed up to feed the shop Kat...

Might have quoted you, then removed the quote.
If he did that, I would have expected him to say that, to help identify or resolve the issue, if there is one. But it would've had to have been a quote of a post from another thread, because, as I said, I have no posts to quote in that thread.

I am sure Ryan will figure it out.

I just quoted you somewhere and deleted it.

I've also noticed if I accidentally quote someone, then delete the text (but not their name) it doesn't show anything in my post. Wonder if that will trigger an alert?

Ok, that was me fully deleting the quote after I posted it.
Very interesting. Where was the post you quoted from? That thread? Or a different thread?
There's another post where I deleted your text, so it doesn't show, but if I edit it still shows I quoted you. I bet that triggered an alert too.
If it was "Test 2," yes!

In my opinion, this is a dangerous, undesirable feature. It essentially captures and shares draft, intermediate, or just plain erroneous actions, quite literally 'Alert'ing other members to initial, less-than-final, and less-than-ultimately intended thoughts or mistakes, prior to a change of mind or a correction.

I quoted your post from this thread as a multi quote, then went over to the WTF thread and made my posts.

Yep, that's the one.

Dangerous is a bit of a stretch, but it certainly is undesirable. I've caught myself a bunch of times where I had some old quote and a half bake response that gets dragged along into a new reply.

Interesting note, I just have notifications turned off, as I'm not getting anything that you quoted me...

Glitch in the Matrix.

Sometimes I wonder if a member has marked to quote you, forgets about and and does a multiple quote later then deletes "your' quote out of the post.

Or maybe the members he does quote have quoted you elsewhere and the system picked it up through some random power surge or something odd. You know, kinda like when you're told to power an electronic device off and restart it.

How in the world is this a dangerous problem?

Yeah, there’s no real way around that…
No worries. Scale and scope wise, obviously not a rampant occurrence. First time I have ever witnessed it.

But now I really want to know what that rat bastid msharley was going to say about what I said that he ultimately decided he didn't want me to see!

I agree, dangerous went too far. I'm just saying I could see having adverse consequences.
You said it and must be held accountable!

:)

I agree, it can be annoying. I've gotten an alert, clicked on it and saw no quote or mention. Generally chalk it up to an unintentional error or an edit for someone that has rethought a posting.

My knew hobby is going to be randomly (not) quoting people in obscure threads!

(Ryan I'm kidding)
