Alternative to e-poxy

Hi everybody,
Just joined the forum as I am looking to surface my garage floor, I have cars on axle stands everyday and that means I'm dragging a trolley jack around the garage.
I was considering laying some aluminum tread plates on top of some marine ply wood, after checking through the forums it seems that most folks seem to be using E-poxy.
Is using aluminum tire tread plates a waste of time and money ?

You need to protect the concrete underneath the jacks etc. and the cheapest and easiest way is the harden the concrete. If the concrete is not hard enough it might dust and scratch.
