I saw this ad on Craigslist, where a 7" AMMCO metal shaper is listed. The fellow is listing the whole batch of stuff for $4,000.00, but has the shaper listed to sell for $400.00 by itself. It is in Noti, Oregon.

It looks like a complete machine. Small, but very cute!

I have no connection to the seller.

(I posted this in the General Garage Forum by mistake earlier) (facepalm)

I had one of those pass through my shop many years ago. Cute and would do good work within it's capabilities. I was always scared of the phonoloic bull gear but it lasted through my time.

$400. is reasonable for that shaper if it has no big issues. It appears to have the original vise, and they can be hard to find if you need one.

I grew up using one of those, its still sitting in my grandfather's shop and might one day come to mine. Theyre good lil machines and definitely fun to watch run. I've got an Atlas now that I took on as a challenge a few years ago, it was a stuck solid lump of rust missing quite a few parts when I bought it. I tore it down to nothing, freed it up, blasted/painted it, made a bunch of new parts, and it ran many hours before succumbing to zamak disease a year or two ago now, it'll be repaired and likely run forever after tho.

Back prior to the economic dump of 2008 that'd be a $1k machine if restored. Sadly, the market for these lil shapers never really recovered much the same as most antique machine tools, I'd say $400 is top-dollar for any of them anymore.
