After admiring all the garages on here for years, I'm finally working on one of my own. This is a ranch house that originally had a two car garage. Someone added a car-port to the side and then closed it in, making it essentially a 4 car garage. We are now re-framing the roof to eliminate the car-port conversion stuff and make it a real building, and also pushing the back wall back as shown so that it ranges from 24 to 33 feet deep, for about 1200 square feet overall, which should fit 6 cars with the lift.

Looking for ideas and suggestions, but the basic plan now is to pour a new slab and use porcelain tiles for the floor; Bendpack HD-7W lift (note the boxed opening in the ceiling for height); true swing-out carriage doors; baldhead or moduline cabinets along the back wall; air compressor outside; probably ceiling fans over work bench; 220 outlets for welder -- what am I forgetting?

You are forgetting that 1200 sq ft is a great 2 car garage.

I'm a fan of tile or hardwood in the house - don't think I'd like tile in the garage. Epoxy floor would be my preference. No divots, easy to clean, smaller damage are when you drop something heavy.

Since you asked what you are forgetting...with a shop that size, I would want a small bathroom and probably a shower so I could clean off without tracking dirt into the main house.

Ironically, there was a bathroom in the corner of the garage that we took out to gain more space. It was only accessible from the inside though. I mulled that for a long time and opted to position the "guest" bathroom directly across the hallway from the garage to the house. We will do a sink in the bench/cabinets though.

I called Baldhead cabinets and they are going to suggest a cabinet/bench set up. Very nice and responsive company I must say. Hoping to see their stuff in person before pulling the trigger.

Fast-forward about a year and it is nearly done... Huge props to Baldhead cabinets. Eric is super easy to work with, and knocked it out of the park on these I'd say -- he was even able to deal with all the odd angles on the back wall. Bendpak HD-9 coming next week (note opening in ceiling for same) and it still needs a bit more trim and hardware here and there -- but it's nearly there! Door swing out in true carriage door fashion too.

I would kill for 1200 sq ft instead of the 350 or so I have now. Should be a fantastic addition. Depending on usage, I'm personally not comfortable with tile, but my focus is fabrication. It looks great in the 12 Guage Garage, tho.

That is definitely one FANTASTIC looking garage: classy, homey, with just enough of an industrial look to show it's purpose. Thanks for sharing, tom.

Tile is fantastic in the garage. Once you try it you realize how great it is.
