Why not allow animated avatars? This is the only site I know of that does not.

Probably because it's distracting and people would take too many freedoms with it and long threads with many animated avatars would get severely irritating to read through.

I know of many forums which don't allow animated avatars, and quite a few that don't even allow custom avatars until a certain # of posts.

Animated avatars are almost as bad as signature images.

Talk about irritating and distracting!!!!!!!! They should disallow the dancing "Smilely Faces". Those drive me nuts. I know...Just my opinion.

I'm not an advocate of them either. Some is pretty funny, some obnoxious, but all are distracting. Just the same as signatures with pics. Some sites have sigs so large with two or three pictures that they are 10 times the size of the three word response to a question. I vote to keep avatars the way they are presently.

Well ok, but I hate to tell you but they are already here, as I see animated avatars for some users here now. Maybe I shouldn't say who as they may have been grandfathered in before a system change??

I too don't like the huge sig thing either, and that's why I opined to have the sig only appear one time in each thread. I try to remember to turn mine off after one post to a thread, but it can be set globally for the board to only show one time. It would save bandwidth and lower clutter.

Since you mentioned it, I went and found at least two regular posters who have animated avatars. I didn't really take much notice of them before you posted, so I guess they really don't bother me.
