If Ryan is okay with it, would you guys like to see important annoucements posted at the top of each forum or certain forums (I believe that's where they go)? It makes getting info to the masses a little easier as long as you hop on the board to see them. I don't think there's an easy way to setup an email distribution, but I could be wrong.

Things like:
Limited time tool deals (ie, you need to know right NOW or you might miss out)

Maybe you guys can think of other reasons, but missing out on tools deals (Sears sales, "fluke" sales, etc.) stinks.

Thoughts?

I like the idea. I'd probably include news of new product intros too.

The only thing I don't like is when I go to a forum and the first page of threads is nothing but expired announcements / stickies / other useless ****. A couple is ok but more than 5 is too much - someone will have to keep up with them and delete or archive old items on a regular basis.

It would be best if set up as a time sensitive stand alone forum topic. That way, as the "offer" expired, it then could be deleted. This is how I set it up for an events forum on another site that I run. As the "event" is getting closer, I just do a final "reminder" post to bring it back to the top. This way, it is always current, and once the "event" is over, the post itself is moved to the delete folder. Junk.....

Sounds like a plan.

I'll vote for Junkman's idea - a deals only forum that the mods can keep clean as things expire. Titles should have the deal info and the end date so that they can be quickly kept in order.

I guess it's just me now (mods). There used to be others, but honestly I don't remember who they were (from garagejunkies days) besides LuckyDevil.

Yes, there will definitely be an expiration on the annoucements, if possible. Myself or Ryan will keep on top of them. I'll do some poking around with the options and see what is possible.

I guess the key is going to be getting in contact with a mod right away when news breaks, unless we know about it in advance. I'm having trouble thinking that "normal" Sears sales qualify for an annoucement, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on what does and does not qualify.

Ok...

Just made a test announcement. It can be seen:

(1) At the top of the forum I set it to (Questions & Suggestions)

AND

(2) At the top of the list of "Today's Posts"....very nice since that's what I use most of the time.

For tools related annoucements, should it only be attached to the Tools forum and the Today's Posts list? Or every forum? I'd say the former....

If it is in a forum of its own, it will stand out when you click on "Quick Links" and then on "Today's Posts". This is how I check the forums every time. I will say that I totally missed your "sticky" at the top of the "Today's Posts" page. I only saw those posts that were either new or updated. This is the best way to find what is new, and my guess is that just about everyone used the forums this way. If we have a dedicated forum for "Deals", then all new posts, and posts discussing these "deals" will show up as a regular post and it will be quickly recognized for what it is. Sometimes simplification is best, and this is one of those times. Junk..

I'm not sure that is always the case, though. New threads don't always show up as unread. Here's an example: here

I'm not sure a new forum would be the solution.

******...I can not find it. Maybe because of of the time diff between you and me.

OOps OK not so easy to find.

I could put it on top of ALL forums, but I wasn't sure if people wanted to see tool stuff on top of other forums, etc.

No sorry, I must have missed when the unread threads turned to read. :)

Which one of the Three Stooges do you want to be???? I'll be Moe.... I am certain that we can find one more to fill the last slot, among all the rest of the comedians on the site.... :bounce:
