Having a couple mag drills with lots of cutters I decided to pick up an mt3 weldon adapter for my drill press to see how it worked. So far I really like it, for 7/16" & larger holes it drills faster than twist bits with less effort, plus you drill at the same speed, 450rpm for any size cutter. Easy enough to change between chucks & the smaller cutters aren't much more $ than a cobalt twist drill. I'm using this in a powermatic 1200 drill press, not sure how it would work in a smaller press, I might get a mt2 to try in my pm1150 dp, but so far 7/16 to 1 inch works great.

I use them the same way in both of my drill presses. Works great and is nice for those jobs where the mag drill isn't a good fit.

Here's the weldon mt3 adapter from Amazon, only drilled a few holes so far. Drills easy, clean holes, need to try a few sizes when I get time.

I have MT3 to Weldon shank arbour for press and R8 for mill - both with coolant swivel. If I am doing big stuff (1 1/2" and up) or lot of smaller holes I will rig up the coolant feed, otherwise grandson will be using the hand spray. They do indeed cut very nicely - but when high accuracy needed only use milling machine.

I have used them on the drill press. I found them to be fine upto 9/16", but the drill press I have (15" Delta I believe) isn't rigid enough for anything larger. Mt solution was to get a mag-drill. I have a riser made of c-channel and plate to get clearance I need to use my mag-drill, 90%+ of the time I need the riser. The mag-drill with annular cutter is my preference for anything 9/16" and up. I have come up with some out of the box fixtureing (sp?) so I could use the mag-drill. Even used it to put holes in brass.

Use them in my knee mill, they’re fantastic. I found an R8 volley for them which makes them easy to use in a CNC operation too. If I cut a large thru-hole I’ll usually make the first cut with an annular cutter so the end mill doesn’t have to plunge cut. Really increases the life of the end mill.
