Hello everyone, I'm a newbie around here even though I have been doing a lot of looking. My new pole barn was recently finished. So far it is just a shell, no concrete yet, no power or insulation. I live in northern Illinois and am thinking of insulation ideas. Here is my idea that I have seen elsewhere. I would buy pink ridgid foam board, 1 1/2" thick and put it right up against the metal between the 2x6 girts and then get more 1 1/2" to 2" foam boards and screw them to the girts for a total of 3" to 3 1/2" inch thick of foam board. On top of that I would then put 7/16" OSB either in between the posts or on top of the posts. If on top of the posts there will be about a 4" air gap. If in between the posts then the OSB will be right up on the foam boards. I am no insulation guy so I do not know if air gaps are good or not. I'm not crazy about fiberglass batts, seems like it could be a potential for mold and varmint nests, it was in my old garage anyways. I do live out in the country now. Money is an issue and this is something I can do when money allows. I'm not even sure about a ceiling yet, my trusses are 8' O.C.. I have thought about the blow on expanding foam insulation but that sounds expensive from what I have seen around here and I have heard it is pretty flammable. I do expect to do alot of cutting, grinding and welding in there. Sorry for the rambling post and thank you for your information.
