Another static ?

I,ve heard of fluorescent lights causing problems with radios in shop. My problem isn't with lighting ,it,s with new shop pc. When I turn am goes completely off,fm fine.if I turn it off static continues until I either turn main switch off in back of pc or unplug unit all together. Never had this problem before ,Do they make any type of filter that anyone knows of?FM is fine.Thanks

That's what I was thinking too, maybe a harmonics issue.

But his post is hard to read. I think his AM radio doesn't work when the computer is on, even though FM seems to work. Which seems odd to me, but there could be all kinds of feedback on the line even from a computer that is soft off.

Definetly a power supply issue in the computer if it causes AM interference with the computer shut down but still plugged in. A filter wont likely help since its not an issue with the incoming power its an issue with interference being generated inside the power supply.

sometimes if the power supply is TOO BIG for the load, it can oscillate and do weird stuff. like putting a big muma 750W power supply on a little low spec intel i3 or equivilent amd system with no peripherals etc.

Most radio recievers are extremely poor quality anymore, and that goes double for the AM side. FM was created because of the inherent noise problems with AM radio.

The switch-mode power supplies in computers are inherently noisy. Your best bet is to put some distance between the radio and the computer supply. Run a speaker if you want the sound closer to where the computer is. Or just stream what you are listening to on the computer.
